Thanks Joe. Very timely, as I'll be buying some of these shortly. Love all your vids.

The voltmeter went on my lotus LE80 vape box and i found these on ebay and it was an exact replacement. Never considered checking it for accuracy though. but I got few more at the same time and before I use them I'll check em. Thanks

Yeah it seems a lot of people didnt bother checking or at least admit to it 😉 or didnt know. Thats what this video is for, thanks for watching👍

Of the five meters you have linked, were there any that stood out or were they pretty much the same?
@AveRage_Joe6 жыл бұрын
Yeah there all pretty much the same. I hear red meters can show lower voltage but I cant verify that since I dont have any.
@rholt27 жыл бұрын
Joe, although i did know this option on the small meters, I'm sure there are SOOOOoo many people out there who did not have this piece of information. Your ability to come up with all these seemingly small bits of information is one of the many things that i like about your channel. So many times i find myself searching around for information on these "seemingly" little things, which are to me, important, but they get glossed over. Keep up the great work! I do have a question about the Lithium Battery packs. do ALL the packs have to have the same Ah rating, or can you, say, (if you were using a 48 setup such as the one you are using and i am attempting to build) have a 48v pack with 30Ah, and another 48v with 60Ah and have them in parallel? My heart wants to say yes, but my gut is mumbling in the background, "no". Russ from Coral Springs, Florida, USA
@AveRage_Joe7 жыл бұрын
Ya I had a few people ask on how to adjust them so I figure if a few wanted to know then there could be more. LOL I do get this question to. I think it can go both ways and heres why. In your single 3.7v p packs, what capacity did you go with? 2000-2200 or like many others and use what ever comes your way (me included) 2000-3000ma. I would probly end up doing it because cells can sometimes be hard to come by. Then others will say your doing it wrong and you should always get as close as you can so one pack doesnt work as hard ect.. What I have learned is to always go with your gut. 😜
@rholt27 жыл бұрын
LOL! well, THAT was a hell of a lot of help!!! what happened was, i bought a bunch of those 12v Boston Power Battery packs, enough to bundle them into 2-24V packs in series to get 48V... and recently bought 4 new LiFePo4 packs (12.8V 48Ah) which i'm will (when balanced) series into another 48V "pack". i'd like to know if it would be kosher to parallel the 2 - 48v packs and work them off my solar controller (Renogy 60W model). i'll keep asking around. i'm pretty sure it wouldn't hurt anything to run them, as long as i kept a close eye on each cell (with the tiny volt meters on each cell) and made sure there was never any over charge nor below 3.2v discharge happening. i'll let you know what my findings are and what my source(s) was/were. Russ from Coral Springs, Florida, USA P.S thanks for getting back to me so soon.

+Russell Holt Lol ya it was kinda a both ways answer. If it were me Id probly do it. Ya let me know what you end up doing.

Cool! I have six of these I've installed on my ebike batteries and on one small 1200W backup battery/inverter. I'm embarrassed to say I never considered adjusting them, they were all pretty close, within 0.2 volts of actual. I kind of wonder about linearity, you know, if it's calibrated to be accurate at 4.27, will these tiny units be accurate at 1.55 or 12.45? There's not much one might do about the lack of accuracy across the measured voltage range. I'm eager to take a look and adjust them all tomorrow. Thanks for sharing!
@AveRage_Joe7 жыл бұрын
+Charles Tatakis 👍Yeah I think mine were pretty close but wanted to get that lil extra. My blue ones are 3-30v so I cant go that low. Ill have to check the red one and see how low it goes
@charlestatakis93637 жыл бұрын
You're right, you can power the meter with 3 to 30 V and mine will measure to 100 V. They do fail immediately after powering over 30V btw, I used the wrong configuration on one of my batteries at 34 volts and it displayed for perhaps three seconds and failed never to return again, they are a bit fragile. I have the three wire ones, two wires for power and the third is the variable signal wire so it's possible to power it up using one cell and measure anywhere from the series batteries.
@AveRage_Joe7 жыл бұрын
I did the same with the one in the video. Hooked it up to the 53+volts and "tried" to adjust it lol. I was like wth is wrong with this. Doh! light bulb finally kicks on in the brain about them only checking 3-30v. It was warm but still works surprisingly

I'll have to look inside my HF multi meters and see if they can be adjusted. Had my Goldstar Fluke clone certified when I was still working so I think it is correct, but all 4 meters read different on any one source? Can't wait for more episodes of "Horus and the 18650 Guy".
@AveRage_Joe7 жыл бұрын
+Lloyd Prunier I dont remember anything to adjust on those meters but Ill be sure to look next battery change. Yeah my HF meters are just a lil different also. Horus had different plans this time lol
@lloydprunier44157 жыл бұрын
I have 2 of the HF meters and one has a pot and the newest one doesn't. The pot adjusted the voltage so it's a little better to use now.

One thing you may want to work on is setting the white balance on your particular camera before shooting. This video looked like the camera was set to film daylight (5500-6500K) but was shot under lighting that had a lot more yellow and red in it (maybe 2700-3500K). If your camera supports it you can get fairly close by zooming into a piece of high brightness printer paper and telling the camera to balance to that or you can get special color balance cards that usually have white on one side and gray on the other to help set the camera. Another cheap way is to place a coffee filter over the lens and set the balance from that before shooting.

LOL you are 100% correct. I forgot about the settings from Eclipse day and well you noticed right away. That is a great way to set it up. Ill have to give them a try!! Thanks

After I posted I started wondering if it had anything to do with filming the eclipse. I was out with my camera during the eclipse as well but it was pretty cloudy where I live. I was lucky enough to get some footage in between the really heavy clouds.

This isn't the same screw driver but I use the heck out of these since they come in so handy. Not sure if they use the same size bits. I know many of these precision screwdrivers do use the smaller bits. www.amazon.com/Bostitch-Office-Stanley-Screwdriver-66-344-2/dp/B00ZPSO8GE/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1503476860&sr=8-7&keywords=screwdriver+pen

@MrStemkilla7 жыл бұрын
watch out adjusting these. your meeter is most likely not calibrated correctly. id look for a absolute known voltage source or use an oscilloscope. and both meeters should be used at the same time. those draw a small load so it can be pulling the battery voltage down some. however for you its more so important that they all calibrated the same so you dont falsely diagnose weak packs. for that use, this method works good enough. but i would not use this method when charging to 4.2V they start taking damage at 4.28V and some DMMs are known to be about a tenth of a volt out from the store
