Another idea (see below). Inexpensive torsion pins could be used on one of the end plates to align with steel rod.

Thank you for sharing your design. I was reluctant to pay over 2/3rds the expense of a clone Tomek motorized stone sharpener for a diamond truing jig. I am thinking of incorporation a few diversions (it would be too bold for me to offer them as improvements) from your model. I plan to utilize Azek pvc foam board for the two end pieces and diamond carriage. I do not think the minute load of a slowly advancing diamond point requires machined aluminum. A 0.5 carat diamond mounted on a threaded rod, intended to dress engine valve grinding stones, are about as expensive as the dresser you used and should be easier to use and build. It appears that you oversized the holes where the threaded rod goes through the aluminum end caps. Provided that the rod is long enough, I think it would be advantageous to thread them as well. The diamond carrier would be more rigid and should resist chatter that way. The idea of using square section steel tubing is brilliant. I will likely drill holes in both top and bottom to ease installation of Allen headed fasteners. I will, of course, comment again once I make mine to see if application approaches theory (to the good or bad).

Drill 10.8mm for an 11mm ream should help next time. Really like this project. Thanks 😊

Thanks for the tip! I need to get some reamers in different sizes

Wow!! Very exciting video, looks like you've gotten a bunch of new toys? Very cool to see. I'm still using ye olde whet stone, and a guided stone system from Worksharp. Honestly, it's probably plenty adequate for my needs, but nonetheless it's cool to follow along and see you making use of power tools. Might also be worth checking the balance of your wheels if you haven't done that already!

Hi White, i might actually send back the sharpener, it's great, but I really just wanted to see if I could use it to make a rounded tip blade. For most flat profiles a regular whetstone and hand will do the job as you say. Something like this is handy if you have a lot of hand tools to sharpen. I do eventually want to do more woodworking so maybe it will find some use there. At the moment there's no space to keep the machine, I'm starting to draw up some plans to build a workshop/machine shop in my garden so when that is completed in a year or 2 this might have more use, have to wait and see.

You also had to buy a mini CNC Milling Machine (and learn how to use it), a Drill Press, a Metal Bandsaw, etc. LOL
