I used freetrack software for years with PS3eye and ir clip. Switched over to Opentrack when FT started having issues with Cliffs of Dover. It was a huge improvement over FT, smoother tracking and no more crashes. Make sure you completely uninstall Freetrack before installing Opentrack.

Thank you, all the different software has one flaw or another hopefully open track is the new way as free track was getting annoying.

Can't say the same when using Wii remote, free track if far superior when using it

People make a fuss over wiring their LEDs for some reason, I used 3 'generic' 5mm infrared LEDs, 1.25 volts each, wired in series. So, the three together in series need 3.75 volts. When run off a 5V USB port, only *one* resistor, about 13 to 16 ohms, is needed in series. Current is roughly 80 to 100 mA (0.08 to 0.1 Ampere). With this setup, any cheap webcam will track perfectly with a wide range of settings. Set the camera contrast to maximum, and no change to the camera is needed--leave the IR filter in, and no visible light filter (floppy disk or film negative) is needed at all.

Devil's Offspring i somewhat revised it to usb but at this point i got annoyed as reading chat with 1 on is annoying to viewers lol, looking over at the chat screen multiple times is lots of game movement

Great video thankyou.....P.S Use a PTC as a fuse to protect the motherboard, and grind down the ends of the IR LED's with very fine emery paper and then polish them, makes it more precise on the detection.

It's been a few years since I had an 'official' TrackIR system. I had versions 3, 4, and 5, one of each. All of them were stolen from me. Fuck that! Anyway, the expensive TrackIR really isn't all that much better, or even really any different at all, from using a cheap webcam and homemade 3-point clip. The only thing is TrackIR doesn't require much of any setup. The homebrew solution takes a bit of fiddling with the camera settings to get it to track really well. That being said, I use a cheap Logitech c270 webcam, and I never bothered with removing the IR filter from the sensor (you can't anyway, it's a permanent part of the sensor) and I don't use a visible light filter either. Just set max contrast in your webcam driver, and you're good to go! Opentrack kicks ass; it works just about equally well with any old webcam. You don't need a PS3 Eye camera for best tracking, anything that's 30 FPS is just fine.

Great video, very useful. One question, which software did you use as the driver for the PS3eye camera work on the PC?
@ReadySetGame878 жыл бұрын
+steelparrot codelaboratories.com/products/eye/driver/ it costs $3 i think but works with no hassle

just stumbled into your realm and am watching this video. i've seen a couple on this subject already and was wondering if a ps3 eye with motion detection is ok. that is all i am seeing on ebay as of this writing. do you have a model number? thanks for your help.

i have a logitech quickcam easy/cool, did the mod removing ir filter and put the floppy cover in place. Software (TrackHat) tells me that doesn't recognize any PS3 cam. Can I use a different one or not, just that one? thanks
@iamerighi7 жыл бұрын
I mean,, I installed the driver, test works but when I start up tracking it's saying "No Camera Found"
@ReadySetGame877 жыл бұрын
iamerighi i have never seen it done with a logitech quickcam, the ps3 eye driver is for the ps3 eye so it could be an issue using logitech but like i said i never tried with anything but the ps3 eye. maybe try a couple other programs like freetrack and such to see if it picks up the camera.

The resistor can be over 30ohm,40 for exemple?
@ReadySetGame878 жыл бұрын
+Sebastian585 well the higher the ohm the dimmer the led's will be making it less responsive for tracking. lower ohm may result in lower lifespan or blows out in a short period of time and maybe immediately depending on how low a resistor.
@swordandkeyboard8 жыл бұрын
can u use a red filter on top of the leds?
@ReadySetGame878 жыл бұрын
you would just use red led's if it is for point tracking but that requires a different resistor. leds are typicall 2.2 v the ir leds are 1.2v
