The brake idea is brilliant. I have an OEM double front brake and single rear brake on my KMX kart. It is a real pain getting the front brakes to put equal pressure. If the pressure is off by a little bit, the trike will start to slide sideways. That's why I have the bicycle/trike shop do the adjustments.

Really enjoying this build. I've had the same idea for years and I'm just getting around to actual planning. As I also can't weld I'll be going your route, so thanks so much for these videos. Looking forward to seeing the bodywork. I'm leaning toward using luan with two-part epoxy and the stich-and-glue technique I've used in small boats in the past. Lightweight and strong enough.

Congratulations u did a great job. I build a few, didn't get good experience with 14mm front axle plus no fronts brake. I switch to bigger axle diameter and problem resolved.
@bobbo95497 ай бұрын
Hi Graham, What about hinging the front axle each side of the bracket that secures it to the main frame and fitting a rear shock in a similar manner to the rear across the top of the now hinged axle? I would imagine you would need to set the shock so that the axle was straight when sat on it so the camber angle would remain similar and would only change when the axle and shock was loaded when going over a bump. Could be talking out of my backside as only an idea.

Nice job.. watched the whole series.. Cool to see people build stuff. Good idea on the trans verse leaf spring for front suspension. You could probably find some leaves at a junkyard out of an old car or perhaps from a trailer. How the Corvettes use a transverse leaf spring across the entire rear and it acts as both a lower control arm and the spring. They used that design up until the c8 I believe. of course it was some kind of composite polymer leaf. Keeping it simple is always a good idea unless it absolutely has to be more complicated to make it work. And it's a bike so it really shouldn't need to be complicated
@grahammakesstuff.19163 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to comment and watching the whole series. I'm currently working on front end 3.0, still going down the leaf route but with fibreglass and aluminium. Car leaves were considered, but couldn't quite find the right size/shape etc. New video to follow soon. Thanks again.

Pleased to see you're going bigger with the front spindles, always though they could be a weak spot. Look forward to see how you get on with the bodywork and front suspension.
@kbakeritsallaboutnobody.57614 жыл бұрын
You should look into go kart front suspension. When they designed the front they installed springs on the main bolts that holds the hub on to provide a little suspension in the front and a couple coil springs may be cheaper than a leaf spring. I don't just an idea. I hope you figure it out.

I know this is a old video but if you got some more of that flat thick aluminum you could bend it to go over the front tires and it would probably stop the axle from bending plus you would have a place to mount some fenders if you want.
@DIY-DaddyO11 ай бұрын
Hi, really nice design there. Just a thought, for the front end ideas you could look at cyclecars for suspension ideas. Could it be built with a single front wheel? Good luck with it all, truly inspirational and makes me want to give it a go.

You should have put the front wheels between an upside down U aluminium bracket ( or cut up front some forks) to support each side of the wheel spindle to avoid it from bending.

Looking good. My only concern is the rear tire. A bit low looking. Of course that may be due to load bearing. Not the driver. The chassis. Could a wider and chunkier tire work in the rear? I am loving the Trike. Just worried about you getting a flat, blow out etc. etc.

I've been watching these videos on your trike build and I'm majorly impressed and Ive also subscribed as I love watching how people like yourself have a concept , idea, vision and work out solutions here and there to get it to work and I think it's amazing the different ideas people have and we definitely could all learn from each other . My first question is that ,given that recumbents are traditionally heavier bikes than your standard unit and yours is no weld, do you have an idea on how much yours might weigh in its current form before any fairings or enclosures are considered ? Well done on the build and 👍 from down under 🇦🇺
@grahammakesstuff.19164 жыл бұрын
Thanks for subscribing and for your comments. At present I don't know how much it weighs but I am going to work out how to weight it at some point. It's probably not light as it's been over engineered for safety's sake. Also, being no weld, all the nuts and bolts where welding would be adds some weight. Watch this space.

Great work! Just a question: to fit different size riders, why not slide the seat instead?
@grahammakesstuff.19164 жыл бұрын
I did consider that but, as the handlebars are mounted through the main chassis rail and, therefore are fixed. Moving the seat would put them too far out of reach for tall riders and too close for short ones.

Mr. Graham watching the this video. Was cool. Just wondering. Where can I get the plans for this trike. Would like to try to build. Thank you for the video.

Bert. Firstly, thanks for watching, very much appreciated. Unfortunately, like most of my projects, I don't work from plans. I start with an idea and see where it takes me. Sometimes it all goes horribly wrong and I have to redo hours of work. And Sometimes all goes well. This was is about half and half. Still some things I need to change, which will be in a later video. Sorry that's not much help.

Not a bat idea, although, I have tried skis, which work well. But ,due to the wood on their construction, the expansion and contracting when exposed to moisture, changed the steering geometry. Not by much, but enough to be noticeable.

With a dérailleur on the crank sprocket front chain driving the 15 speed rear chain (via the intermediate chain) I have 45 speeds to choose from.
