I made this bag last year, using outdoor water resistant canvas for the outside, and muslin for the lining. I used it for 2 months constantly, and found that the fabrics were too soft. It would fall over when I set it down because the fabric didn't have enough body to support the contents, which were not heavy. It was an excellent design, and held more than you would expect. It is even large enough to hold my Kindle reader!! I am making another one, using denim chambray for the outside and cotton sheeting for the lining, but this time I am putting firm craft-weight iron-on interfacing on both the lining and the main fabric. I'm sure this will add body and help it hold its structure. I did not use an adjustable strap - I just fitted it to my needs and sewed it down. Thank you for this great design and follow-along instructions. This is not a project for a beginner just learning to sew, as it is kind of complicated, and fitting the pieces together may look simple but takes some experience in handling curves, easing, and zippers.

It is recommended to use a roll of #5 polyester zippers that can be cut to the desired size.

@@AePooiM I bought rolls of #5 zippers, and they were only 3cm wide. I had to add a strip of cloth facing on the edges and cut it to make them 4cm wide as called for.

Most of the 12" rulers sold in the US have metric measure on the other edge. If yours don't, you can buy one at the dollar store.

Ellen, I just finished making this and it almost drove me crazy! See my note above. Cotton/linen would be too soft, unless you apply iron-on interfacing to all the parts, including the lining. All the seam allowances are 1/4" or less - using clips instead of pins helps. Plan on this taking several hours over more than one day. Good luck!

At the 17:20 mark you flip it too fast to see which way to sew

You can go to settings - playback speed, and click on a slower setting. If yours is set on Normal, click on the 75 and it will slow down to 75% of normal speed, or you can choose even slower. That might help you see what he's doing better. And I agree, he flips it around too many times to get it lined up correctly - it's confusing.
