After the initial ripping of our back seat dog hammock. We have got a replacement on the way! To ensure that it doesn’t happen again. I have built an easy support for the hammock that should stop the tear from happening again.

I like the GM trucks but the thing that gives me pause is the Ford F 150 is rated at 9.8 inches of ground clearance with 23 degrees of approach angle. The GMC Sierra 1500 is rated at 8.1 ground clearance and 19 degrees approach angle. I plan on putting a 4 Wheel Camper on the truck I go with and going off road quite a bit, and the front of the truck looks like it would be having trouble dealing with off road conditions. I was wondering if you had thought this might be any problem for you. The front air dam looks like it could be the primary reason for the significant difference in the Ford and GMC.

Yes this was definitely something we took into consideration when purchasing. For sure the front end is a potential snag spot when going off road with it. We don’t plan to do anything too intense with the truck that would be a major concern. This being said there is a bumper replacement that will happen down the road on this build out. Right now there aren’t a ton of after market parts for this generation GMC. I am hoping if we prolong this portion of the build there will be more options. Skid plates under and a potential front lift/level is also on the table to help. So moral of the story is yes this is a point of concern for sure with the GMC over other trucks.

@sethrowsam Well, it is a nice-looking truck. I like the looks of the GMC trucks. I also think that GM has done a good job with the 2.7 turbo engine it wouldn't bother me at all going with that engine. I've seen KZbin videos where people remove the front air dam on the Chevy and GMC trucks, and they say it improves the ground clearance by 2 or 3 inches up front. I could do that. I'm just not familiar with the after-market parts and shops and would prefer not to do too many modifications on a new truck. The back of the truck looks like it has plenty of clearance. What is the payload? Can it carry a camper.

Yeah the aesthetic of this truck definitely beat out all practicality of other truck options haha payload is somewhere north of 2000lbs if I’m remembering correctly. We have airbags put on the back suspension that add another 5000lbs. This was the pre camper prep work suggested by Main Line Overland who we are doing all our work through.
