Nice project. In the past I built my record cabinet out of plywood and they served me well until I moved three years ago. The cabinets were too tall to fit into my new house so they were converted to garage storage. I found that IKEA made modular cabinets that work very well as record cabinets as long as they are positioned against the wall. And by stacking four bin and two bin cabinets on top of each other I was able to get them to fit in the room. They now form a 18 foot by six foot storage area for my record collection.

Like the cabinet except the exposed pocket holes. Don’t get me wrong I use pocket holes all the time, not hating on those, but I think dadoes and rabbets would’ve made it look cleaner. Either way the edges looked real nice with that round over.

Here in Bangladesh, many furnitures like study table, book shelf, computer table, dressers are made with melamine boards. They last more than 2 to 3 years if the don't come in contact with water. And the project is a success obviously. It looks great

I own an antique 40's victrola style standing record player (which belonged to my great grandmother) that I found in her 200+ year old farm house after my grandparents died... I haven't gotten around to it yet but the plan is to restore it and use aligator clips to make reversable modifications to it so that it can play the music on everything from 8-track to CD as well as equip it with a bluetooth reciver and transmitter so it can also play music over a bluetooth speaker system.

I'm not a huge fan of the look of melamine, but I will say I think you made a great choice by embracing the material for what it is. I think the reason I don't like particle board furniture from ikea and other stores is that's it's trying to pass as solid wood or some other material that it isn't. Also the roundover was a great choice.

Man I love the look of the melamine and the rounded edges help with it alot not having the flat break of the top layer. But the poet holes are quite distracting I think filling them up with a lighter wood. Would make it alot nicer

I can't speak to dryer climates but here in Florida it can get over 50% ambient humidity. Particle board swells up and if it gets wet or damp it will rot and trap mold and leave stains. Well worth it to spend an extra $20 to get a full plyboard sheet and edge band that instead. I know its done a lot but as someone who works at lowes the particle board products are not worth the glue they are held together with, especially the heavy prebuilt units. Nice job on your project though!

So as someone who does vibration and sound transfer prevention as a part of my day job painting those rubber spacers reduces effectiveness as the hard paint will transfer light vibrations via direct contact with the surfaces you are placing them between. Granted this is probably being more meticulous than need for your project. Looks great though! 👍

Funny. Music on vinyl seems to be a common woodworkers hobby. For me shelf for records is a project on the go. Just have to finish design process…. 3 rd version allready and seems - not last. :)
