DIY: Waldorf-Inspired Calendar

The Grimms Annual Calendar Ring is beautiful but costly! I've seen them priced at almost $200...that's curriculum money right there! So, here's an alternative and of course you can get creative and use a variety of materials to make a less expensive version using cardboard, foam, etc. I like the wood feel so I opted for unfinished wooden pieces that I could customize. I hope this gives you some ideas! :)

I’m so happy I found your channel. I’m in exactly the same boat right now. I want my 3 yr old boy to enjoy imaginary play & learning with Waldorf toys & materials, but they are so expensive!! I started by going to a local craft store and bought a few peg dolls and some paint. Now I’m hooked!!!! I stumbled upon a craft that I now love. Thnks for all the extra inspiration girl! I love this calendar! I am a Early Childhood Teacher and thinking about how I could use this with my 3-4 year olds. I think I would keep the felt balls in a bag and add one ball each day. I’m definitely going to attempt to make this!

The Birthday Ring was $12.99 without shipping, the wooden circle it sits on was $5 at Home Depot, the wooden numbers were $3 at Target, the trees came in a bundle of 12 trees for $37.25 (including shipping) from ClickityClack on Etsy, we already had the wool and peg dolls in our supply box. Oh and the wreath ring came from Dollar Tree, I just cut off the inner rings with a wire cutter. I picked up the supplies over a couple of months. This is a month later but wanted to tell you about a cool area in Indianapolis called Broadripple.Theres so many local eateries and a great natural store called Good Earth.The downtown area ( south of downtown) is very cool too! Just look up fountain square. So much to do in Indy!

Hey I found the intention cards online on Pinterest, I re-sized them and printed them. The wooden numbers were from the Target bargain bins. I hope this is helpful! :)

youre coming up to my neck of the woods. im up by lake michigan but if you are taking i-65 up to Chicago definitely stop in Merrillville. there are loads of shops there and a mall. also tons of great food places. if its lunch time i recommend house of kobe which is a great hibachi place or there is portillos which is a great place to take kids! also this calendar is so cute. im wanting to do something similar for my 5yo and for my 9mo ( once shes able to do advanced critical thinking)

Hello this is so creative and well made. I was thinking if you can recommend any non toxic paints for wooden toys. My daughter has some grimms toys but some of them have some chips on the edges and I want to pix them by repaint them... any suggestions on paints to get? Thank you and Happy New Years

I've been using mostly Lyra watercolor paints although I've heard folks use food coloring to make non-toxic paint. The issue there is your color palette would be limited and I'm pretty sure they would fade (so do watercolors it just takes longer). I wonder what type of paint Grimm uses...maybe you can call them and ask? I'm sure they'd be willing to help and that way you would know the colors would match. Grimm toys are pricey so it would be nice for the paint to go on seamless. Let us know what you end up using.
