I wanted to make some DIY wall art decor to tie in some of the other home accents in our new apartment space! I still have a lot of leftover wood in my workshop, so I used it to create my #DIY wall art in the shape of a diamond. This was a really fun weekend #woodworking project and was super therapeutic!

Another project that I'll put in my queue. Love your designs. My only issue (around pallet wood) is trying not to damage the wood when removing it from the pallet. I'm someone new to the channel, but a video or write up on your approach would be very interesting! In any case, love this project and will definitely be giving it a shot.

@@diyhuntress Yes...I've been studying that video and blog the last two weeks lol. Almost done with the nightstand. I'd say about 80% of the pallet wood I extracted was usable. Seems like newer pallets are prone to breaking than older ones...or I just need to adopt a different method!

When you were trimming the excess off, do you think it would be possible to do that on a table saw? I.e.: could something like this be made where all the cuts are made with just a table saw?
@diyhuntress

I think it’s possible, but you probably have to have a clean edge on at least one side, if that makes sense!

This looks good! If I may, a little idea to make it ~lazier and cheaper~ easier on you on future versions. Cut the scrap into "veneers" first instead of thicker pieces. I am being pretty generous with what I call veneer here, anything from paper thin shavings to several mm that you can cut with scissors, a knife or very few strokes of a hand saw - whatever you're more comfortable producing and working with. Similarly, what you're making veneers from can be as simple (single woods) or as complex (e.g. yosegi) as you want. That way you can also use a thinner backboard (even particle board) and make the artwork lighter.
@diyhuntress
@diyhuntress 4 жыл бұрын
Love that idea! Luckily, don’t have to be frugal right now. But, will keep in mind for the future!
@louisvictor3473
@louisvictor3473 4 жыл бұрын
@@diyhuntress oh for sure, you seem to have plenty of scraps there, not gonna run out of them in a while :D I was thinking more in terms of convenience and flexibility when you're making patterns on the fly (if you go the thinner route, it is basically paper craft). Also to make multiples with less work (doesn't need to be veneer either). Make the pattern once (whole pattern or small parts to combine) but "vertically", so that every time you take a slice of the thicker piece the cross section has the pattern/element in it. Like, instead of cutting 10 round circles out of a sheet, you just take a big dowel and cut 10 slices out of it. Not sure I am making sense, I am trying to control my wall of text habit :X
