Hi, I saved this as a project that I definitely want to do. Though, instead of using the twist ties, I'm going to use the ponytail holders, which have butterflies, flowers, etc. on the ends, and put the cement over them, as well. It would, also, look nice without the cement covering the ponytail holder charms. Just cover the bands. That way there wouldn't be anything to cut off or try to pull out...and no wires to stick you if you happen to rub your fingers in those spots.

Also, instead of painting it, I'm going to leave the cement color and use the crackle glaze to make it appear ancient. I may get some bronze paint and highlight some areas to make it seem and under the crackle to look like an ancient relic that the paint is peeling. Hmmm... I guess I need to look up hieroglyphs and paint some on it, as well.

You realise the ends don't have to be cut, right? Instead of 18 separate pieces of rope, make 9 loops. That way you'll have neat, round "petals" at the top. Also, instead of tying the pattern with string, use wire and leave it in afterwards - armed concrete. Mixing in some glass fiber or similar for micro-armament might be good, too. And of course the rope will add strenth. For a water run-off hole in the bottom, tie a piece of PVC pipe into the center of the rope ends, and remove when done.
