I love it when the pallet recycling videos start out with, "First, put the wood through your professional grade joiner and planer!"

I've seen people do it with cheap jointers and planers and it looks good too

It's a brilliant box and great to watch. I'm still looking forward to seeing these types of things being done with minimal tools coz the fancy expensive power tools are out of reach for a lot of people.

Looks great, I just noticed your lock was installed incorrectly, Screws should be behind the metal. Otherwise anyone can remove 3 screws and open chest apart. I like that you used planer and sander to make the wood looking perfect. Good way to repurpose the pallets. I will definitely try it and recycle my pallets
@sonmydful2 жыл бұрын
Careful with your selection of pallet wood, not all is equal, pallets painted should be avoided as they contain chemicals in the material. Also pay attention to stamps on the outside of the pallets, avoid those labelled MB, MBL or MLB as they contain methyl bromide

I agree with you it looks great, but I think the bottom is not strong enough. The bottom is only held by some nails. Any more weight in that storage chest and the bottom will come off.
@makethedayuk Жыл бұрын
That's the least of his worries, the bottom will drop out as soon as anything is stored in it, also would have been nice to see a bit of glue used, the large screws concealed, and sprayed behind the catch. 👍

It’s one of the best pallet wood projects I’ve seen in a while. Thank you for sharing. However, no glue and no screws? I can’t see that box lasting long.

@@TeddyR_Official if wood glue was used, maybe a bit longer. But with using all brad nails I was thinking just the same.

I made a foot locker box for my nephew using all sorts of scrap wood that came from a wood bed, part of my brother in law's garage he tore down, some came from a pallet. I made it work and it came out great. From a guy that didn't know what he was doing. Now I have a air nailer the next box I made came out even better. I don't have a planer so all my box's look ruststic looking.

I want this to be my first project. I love how you did the sides not too sure on the top and bottom though I might want to reinforce the bottom part and the top sharper cuts so they fit tight up against each other over all this is the easiest way I've seen it done.

This is nice. Just what i was thinking of making and now i see how to do it .
@HoneyHollowHomestead3 жыл бұрын
I like the concept, but if you are planning on keeping anything heavy in it for any length of time, your bottom is going to fall out. The bottom needs to be reinforced with something other than staples or brad nails.

With most pallets you'd be lucky to get four usable pieces of wood.
@shinigami-man57272 жыл бұрын
You're taking them apart wrong. You gotta use leverage to lift them off the nails. You'll get a number of split ends, but if you cut those off you have mostly usable wood.

At 10:00, you are routing in the wrong direction, that is why the router is kicking so much. You're supposed to go against rotation, like on a table saw, but you are going with the direction of rotation, which is called climb cut, and the router is trying to jump out of your hands. Couple that with holding your fingers that close to the blade insted of on the handle, well... Let's just say I'm not surprised by the missing finger.

Pallets in my area are mostly plywood now not solid wood and many delamintes at the ends. It will take a lot of effort to deconstruct the pallets to save all the component parts unless you saw through much of it. Nails hold on so tight some will break into pieces that you might just use a saw.

Sloe wine is delicious! We have an abundance of them here in Ireland, and I generally wait until after the first frost to pick them, as it's supposed to turn some of the harsh starches into sugar. I have 2 recipes, one which includes a home made red wine, so I try to save some sloe wine for this. Dangerously nice!
