This is a great project, but The only thing I would have done differently was, rather than screwing in the bottom where the power cords are, I would have put a hing in place for better accessibility and possibly hidden storage.

A true DIY knows that even stuff that look professional or very complicated can be modified in the process to make it more simple to do. This build can be completely done with just a drill, a circular saw, a jigsaw and normal materials like screws, wood, sandpaper, etc. The laminate can be omitted and simply paint it or apply white wood stain, two coats and then wipe on polyurethane.
@maintainprivacy

@@jellyg.8961 Sure, but I'd say that 'that would be correct DIY'. Not everyone seems to have those high-end tools.

You do some the best woodworking videos I've ever seen. You keep it moving at a good pace, and your not afraid to show your mistakes, and more importantly, how you recover from them. You seem to have a good idea of what you're going to do, but you improvise as you build. Reminds me of Adam Savage. I pick up so many great tips and ideas watching you. Thanks!

The finished look is spectacular, the back lighting using LED strips was a nice touch, and the USB ports and outlets are always useful. This project had a lot going on as far as planning, tools and execution. I like the way he makes mistakes and corrects them along the way, he doesn't edit them out of his video. I would prefer the cupholder mounted in right rear of the desk for to maximize space, but that is my opinion, plus he asked what we would have done differently. I only wish I could find the time to do a project similar to this in the future. The magnetic picture/poster wall hanging system is a interesting and cool idea, thanks for sharing. Excellent project, well done. I like you're including your near misses on some issues, makes me feel like I'm not the only one. For your next dream desk, instead of the vinyl, I'd like to see some sort of formica or similar surface treatment, or maybe use a premade countertop narrowed down (front to back) with a bullnose front edge. Again, excellent project!

I'm sure you've heard this 20 times already but depending on space restrictions, I'd try to make it slide inside the wall and when it's inside, the outside trim could be artwork so to blend in and conceal the desk better. Would be a great idea for one of those tiny homes people are building these days.

This is an amazing project and video! I used that same marble style contact paper on the counters in my kitchen. I learned a great tip before I did it from another KZbin video. Spray the adhesive side lightly with Windex before applying it. This will allow you to move it around before it dries and get those bubbles out much easier. Thanks for all the great videos and ideas!! :)

Acrylic paints can be great for kids projects too, because there is blackboard/whiteboard paint that really adds to easyl functionality, can be great as life chart backboard attatched to a desk (whiteboard_dry erase,) and dry-erase tabletop for quick_note/quick_calculations for less paper use or app window confusion

Nice video! I actually appreciate the honesty in the video. Not many people do that. What is the overall weight of the "desk"?

fabulous work ! love your videos. the only thing i would have done differently is painted the back ( hidden ) edge of the wall panel white to strengthen the light output instead of absorbing it with the black edge.

Love it. What I would love, is if it could be folded down (or up) when not in use, reclaiming floor space when folded. That would make it perfect for me.

if youre using it as a desk tho wouldnt you have to remove everything on it every time you want to fold it? that’d get annoying

looks amazing but i somehow get this feeling that it may become little weak with time specially on resting your hands or keeping something little over 5kgs on it.

I feel like by now the wall studs would be hanging on the edges, and I probably had stuffed Polyfilla in to try and fix it. Seems realistic for a laptop and a coffee but not anything heavier - or resting your arms on it for prolonged time.

@@kuzeno6637 I don't know if i can agree with that statement being that at 13:30 you can see the desk tilt downwards as he lays his arm back on it.

How about it's still in use today. The teen kid does makeup and homework on it. It's still holding up just fine.
