great video. I am converting a "1970's Skat Cat" mini bike myself. It has front and rear suspension and larger tires and wheels and typical motorcycle style brakes. We are going to use disc brake system for improved braking and for comfort and safety. Your video explains, in detail the necessary components, for a fully functional e mini-bike. This knowledge can be used for building other electric conversion. How about doing a small outboard motor conversion next?? One suggestion , why not cut the unused right side shaft on the motor. It seems that it could pose a hazard in the event of unforseen contact with a boidy part. Look forward to your next project.

I have some reservations about the design of the headset. By welding the steerer tube onto the two bent tubes that form the front triangle of the frame, your relying on the stregnth of that weld rather than the strength of the tubing. Moreover, having a bolt do the job that a bearing might do within that steerer tube means that the strenght of that front triangle is just the stregnth of that bolt. The flat plates that form the upper are lower crown of the fork are also a little less burly than one would expect (they are solid machined peices even on mountain bikes and this can go a lot faster), and they only weld to the interior of the fork leg, not all the way around as they do on most double crown forks. So there's lots of parts can can fail there, and the result of any of these failures could be the entire fork assembly collapsing towards the rider. There are some ways you could use a little extra butting to stregnthen that weld, but ultimately you have to be confident in that m10(?) bolt, and whilst you might have got an milled steel (or otherwise automotive standard) bolt, someone copying you might use a cheap nickel one which don't last long even with furniture. And chances are this person is going to hit a speed bump at high speed. If you have the plates that do as crowns surround the fork legs, and weld a smaller tube onto them that can sit within the steerer tube, and therefore stop the plates departing from the forks should that bolt fail, and then add a plate that can do as butting going from the side of those bent tubes that form the front triangle over the steerer tube, that might help reduce the chances of a catastropic failure there.

Love the project! If you want to build one with suspension, I might know something helpful for you. I built a small dirt e-bike based on an X-Games MotoBike using a VESC6 and a Flipsky 6374, later upgraded to a Maytech 6396. It worked VERY well, but with many limitations due to the nature of the original bike. I'm working on version 2.0 now with a custom frame and REAL suspension parts, but the Flipsky 80100 I bought vibrates... a lot... The shaft has about 0.005" of runout on the far end, and it's out of balance by at least 4 grams. How smooth does yours run?

Do you have any actual "acceleration facts" or data on this setup? Those motors claim alot of power/watts. But I'm hearing they just don't put the power down well compared to the typical brushless my1020/kunray motors typically used in this application. For example my elec minibike will run a 2.4 sec 0-30. While a Surron does a 4 sec 0-30. I run the "72v 3000w" brushless my1020 motor with a kelly 120 "phase amp" controller. Going by numbers, the motor you used should blow ours out of the water. Any performance data would be great, thanks!
