Many people are quick to tell you that you should have bought new. But, look what you have, a house, barn and 10 acres, that is paid for. You are not in debt. You are paying as you renovate, and not going into debt. Many people can't say they are mortgage free! I'm happy for your family and excited to see your progress. By winter your home should be about 75% done. Congratulations, you are doing well for yourselves.

Y'all are doing an awesome job, when I started working on my home I had some rot due to the roof not being guttered. Since I have 2 rooms upstairs and had to replace the 2 by 10's holding up the second floor, I was a scardy cat. LOL Went to Lowe's and got me a bunch of 4 by 4 post, that's what I used for my temp wall. Everything I know I learned from my Sweetheart [ he's gone on ahead ] I know he would be proud of what I have gotten done. I was always his helper, he was a Carpenter, and I actually learned how to build an entire house, wiring and plumbing too! Ashley, pay attention! Love your channel! BTW I am 77 years old and still going strong, Blessings to you all!

You just pick up and move on with the repairs. (I know, what is the alternative?). I was just routing wood doors for hinges this weekend, and was off 1/16 of an inch on one hinge and sat down and cried. Chemo hormones, I’m thinking. Yes, I DID pick myself up and fix it, lol. @kristinebailey28044 жыл бұрын
The reason for all that dry rot........... Roof pitch is NOT steep enough for Michigan snow fall. No eaves and gutters to carry water away from that deck and chimney. Eave troughs are tricky in Michigan as well, you need tin strips at the edge of the roof and a form of heat tape system that zig zags at roofs edge to keep ice dams from forming and melt backing up inside the house walls. Once you get down below the Mount Pleasant area, snow fall is not as much of a problem.
