⛔⛔⛔ warning! ⛔⛔⛔
You must not try the next project! Before you read the description!
Dear friends, I started this project with great enthusiasm and everything went well. I did not do something that is not typical of me, and did not take into account some simple laws of physics.
At the request of some of my followers, I decided to make a video showing how to turn an angle grinder (disc) into a rotor. I planned the steps ahead and started working. Everything was built perfectly except for one thing. I did not consider that the central axis quality is poor and the diameter of the axis is too small. And all that data worked poorly with a 30,000 RPM rotation speed
My mistake was that I had to install a speed regulator and lower the engine speed. This would prevent the main axis of the engine from breaking! And the result you will see in the video In the 09:24 minute. Although the project failed I decided to upload the video so you can see how dangerous it can be when you do not keep the safety rules at work.
Dear Friends Safety at Work First of all !!! Smart people will watch the video and learn a thing or two about the importance of safety at work especially after changing its purpose to an electric tool. And this is the first project I failed and Today I learned an important lesson and it is definitely .a sad day for me! 😭😭😭 Tell me in the comments what you think it will help me greatly

And thats why routers, or milling machines use collets instead of chucks. Drill chucks can not handle sideload
@visnjigor
@visnjigor 3 жыл бұрын
If you look carefully, you will see that the drive shaft of the motor broke off. That shaft is not designed for significant side load coming from cutting forces and unbalanced chuck. The drive shaft in angle grinder is primarily subjected to torque load and small side load coming from gear mechanism. Some shafts might even have a groove right in front of the bearing to accommodate circlip. That is a serious stress concentrator for bending loads. However, the idea is nice if collet chuck supported with its own ball bearings would be used.
@efrencuadro2
@efrencuadro2 4 жыл бұрын
I think it will work good if you replace drill chuck with 8mm collet. Drill chuck is not design for high speed.

The chuck came loose because it was only being secured by a small allen screw. The allen screw itself wasn’t even tightened fully as you can see by the angle that the allen tool was being used. A chuck on a drill normally doesn’t rely on an allen screw to remain secured.

As a FIXED MAN from DIYFIXMAN, this video was not shew failure, but to lecture other fellows in the same hobbies of workworking from choosing the right parts of DIY projects, in my opinion you choose the wrong drill chuck instead of trimmer chuck which is slim & lighter in spinning bits, thanks God you were ok, keeps on new projects man..

I would presumed that the shaft from the motor has sheared off. Probably due to the side force as the cutting bit was digging through the wood. Looking at the diameter of the shaft, it appears to be too small to take any side loads. It was ONLY designed to drive the gears inside the original grinder itself.
@fjlugos
@fjlugos 4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, this configuration will always fail due to the compatible coupling between the shaft and the chuck, unbalanced, mainly mechanical instability.
