In my case. Jim says check the fuse. Mine wasn't broken it was missing. My son has been tinkering on a ATV and I am guessing he stole it, but refused that he did anything to it. Less than 2 minutes and Jim had me back up and running on a fuse I didn't realize wasn't there. Thanks for the help

My lawn tractor, pretty much just like yours, was running fine today. Stopped in the middle of the yard to do something, hopped back on to start it, and it just clicked. Battery had plenty of juice. Watched your video, simply jiggled every electrical connection you mentioned and made sure it was tight, and later it started. I still don’t know which one was loose, but you helped get something reconnected and ultimately helped the engine start. Thank you very much!

Thanks for the great video Jim ! After mowing my front yard this weekend, my 19 yo JD L110 wouldn't start when I started to mow the backyard, found your video and did the checks you suggested and it was my fuse and the brake safety switch had dislodged out of the bracket. I really appreciate your video. I have a JD S120 that ran like a charm until this past August. It started acting up and wouldn't run for anything, spitting and sputtering and even was hard to start. I took it into a shop and $85 later they told me it ran great. I took it home and about a week later it was back to where it was before. I didn't plan to take it back to them so I read online where I should check the air filter and the plugs. I replaced all three and it ran great FOR ABOUT A MONTH! I was ready go buy a new fuel pump when I ran across your video. Before I blew those ports out back by the fill cap I tried to start it again. The engine would turn over but it wouldn't stay running even if I help the throttle bar up as far as it would go. So I blew out those two ports in the back then got on the mower and tried to start it again. It kicked off nd even in low throttle it stayed running! So I took it out and engaged the blades and it styed running even when I lowered the throttle. I also don't why it fixed it but it doesn't matter because it saved me some time and money because the next stop was another repair shop. Now it sits in my garage waiting for Spring when I mow again! I live in SE Pa. and the grass isn't growing right now. Thank you very much and have a wonderful Christmas.

I have a new filter, half tank of gas, battery is new, new fuse, new spark plug and oil change. I had it in Neutral when I tired to crank it but still nothing. I checked everything that you stated. Ditto for me. This guy gets right to each point. I took this video into the garage and went through the rig one by one. I think the problem is the fuel filter that appears never to have been changed. If changing that doesn’t do it this video helps me believe I’m up for the task to continue. In fact, cleaning things as I’m going through and learning each system is fun. So when I’m finished this old thing will be humming again. Hi it’s just me making a mechanical repair. Hooray!

My LT 150 was dead. The mower engagement lever also has a safety switch. It’s on the firewall near the back of the battery. It’s connected to another small lever that 3:05 activates and depresses the safety switch the mower lever is pulled down to activate the mower. The swivel lever has a set screw in it. It was missing. No go. I used my C clamp to finish my mowing then went to the JD store for a new replace lever.

Thank you for posting your DIY videos. This particular video has helped me to eliminate all the possibilities to why my mower wasn't turning over at all. However, the problem that I found wasn't in any videos that I have found, it turned out to be a grounded wire connected to the lights. Apparently, while opening the hood, the wire harness leading to the lights had become impinged in the latch exposing bare wires, resulting in a ground. Even though your video didn't cover this possibility, it did help me to solve my problem.

@@DIYJIM Not a problem. Turns out it was the PTO switch thinking it was on. Did the screwdriver while holding the key to start over the solenoids bolt ends that the cables connect to and it starts sparks flying. One side had 12+ volts with multimeter (one on negative battery and the other on one of the bolt ends of the solenoid and the other was nothing. So went to check the three safety switches (Seat, PTO and brake), luckily started with the PTO. While holding the key and the SLIGHTEST touch to move the PTO switch, it would start. Hopefully a new switch will seat tightly/snuggly (D140). Thought I'd share, hope it's useful!

Good video Jim. I tried all those things but it still would not start. I opened up the air filter box and sprayed carb cleaner down the hole and still nothing. So I decided to see if fuel was reaching the carb so I disconnected the gas line at the carb and turned over the engine to see if gas would squirt out. And guess what, it did, and not only that but the darn thing started, with me holding on to the gas line. After that I plugged it back in and it started again. I'm not sure why but it works now.

Did you run out of gas? Just had this happen on my Case diesel tractor. Running out of diesel air locked the fuel injector and the lines to each injector had to be bleed (similar to what you did) to get the air out. Not sure if this can happen on these tractors but what you describe sounds very similar.
@patmario4243
@patmario4243 3 жыл бұрын
@@philipgransewicz160 No I did not.Maybe it was just coincidental. The next day it wouldn't start. I replaced the plug and air filter, put more gas in the tank and still would not start. I took out the plug and it was wet, dried it out, waited a bit then it finally did start. Maybe I'm leaking too much oil in cylinder.

Thanks for the video. When I removed the fuel filter no fuel came out of the fuel line. When I removed the gas cap, fuel came gushing out of line. So probably a blockage. And Last year engine would not start because my head gasket leak was putting too much oil in cylinder and fouling up the spark plug.

I just fixed mine by myself. I had a guy put on new battery, spark plut and filters. Still wouldn't start. I watched a youtube video. The gas cap has a hole in it. Take off the cap and the rubber liner had 3 holes in it. The liner will pop out. I cleaned all four holes and put it back on and it fired right back up. Wow. I couldn't believe a gas cap could stop a mower from starting. But it was a free fix.

@@DIYJIM 4 fuses have blown. why 4, bc im in an unincorporated lil town far from the stores and that’s all i had gotten 😂. no but fr it cranked on the 3rd fuse and sounded great like the norm as usual. no cutting out or anything odd at all . i let it run a couple min and it was fine . never engaged it or anything . i got down to let my hubs mow so I shut it down completely and properly ya know . when he went to crank it . pop, that one blew. keep in mind I’m hearing them pop. the actual fuse blowing . just the normal i reckon on that. but yea , went ahead and put the last one in since i JUST had to see that it would pop it again 🤦🏻‍♀️. and it did . but yea… Is their some wires criss crossing or what’s causing these fuses to blow do u know ? Ty so much ….

Just above the fuel filter he pointed out, is the fuel pump. It has 3 ports on it that the hoses connect to. That could also be clogged. Plenty of videos to show you how to check how the fuel gets pulled from the gas tank to the engine and whether your filter or pump is clogged. Just simple stuff to check. It can get more involved with the carburetor/jetting/float bowl if everything else is flowing properly.

Thank you sir . - nice instruction- on some kohler engines you don’t thread in the dipstick to check the oil level , on a Briggs if it has too much oil it can blow a cloud of blue smoke when you start it - if the mower has an electric clutch for the more deck it won’t start if it is pulled out

Jim - Wonderful guidance. I did every step you recommended, except fuel filter (which looks clean from outside). Still nothing. Meter shows battery charged (hope I did it right) and lights turn on. Should I take batter out and get tested at NAPA? How would I know if a switch is bad/dead, without replacing all one-by-one (seat, break)? How would I know if spark plug is bad?

Thanks for watch sorry it did not help you. Really hard to explain in a message how to check everything. I would use a bypass wire in the switches to see if it starts when you bypass one at a time.
