Video is very helpful. My only suggestion would be to scan back a bit to see precisely where the filters are located on each side. (it shows at the end when he is checking for leaks.) I am watching this for my 50 hour filter only replacements. I'm sure once I do it, I'll remember.

This is a very handy video. I did plugs in reverse. Plug facing down drains right into pan and has the majority of oil. Then plug facing forward. His idea for blocking oil on rear small plugs is very good even when you remove the majority of oil from big plugs. Thanks for the tips. 10:06

Glad to see that I was not the only person that had lots of trouble removing that filter. I did like you, used two different filter wrench, a pair of large pliers, then a 36 inch pipe wrench. My filter was all bent up too. I was just about to drive a screwdriver through it when it gave up.

One thing to add - he mentioned in the video that is it over 7-gallons of fluid. That means when you drain the fluid - you need plenty of drain pan and storage containers. I bought a 2nd drain pain just for this purpose. My storage can is only 5-gals so I put the old fluid back in the new fluid containers afterwards to take to the recycling center - this way I was able to do oil and hydraulic fluids in one sitting ; )

Very well explained tutorial and really helpful for Kubota owners. I'm about to change the transmission filter at 200 hours, done 195 hours currently, don't need to change the oil until 400 hours. Oil was changed at 10 hours and last filter was put on at 50 hours. I have a Kioti. Never seen a filter that tight before, thought you were going to hammer a large screwdriver through it for leverage but you came up with a more elegant solution, well done.

Thanks, Mark! Your Kioti oil and filter intervals sound about the same as Kubota, except first engine oil and filter change is a 50 hours. Yeah, I was about to smash a screwdriver through it, but thought it was worth Googling to see if there was a better technique and found the knife and WD-40 method. Thanks for watching!

The cheapest form of repair is regular maintenance. Read the book and do what it says. I use a large Rubbermaid tub with 30 gallon trash bags (two of em) This holds all 10 gallons of hydraulic fluid and the 2 gallons for the front axle. Try draining and changing the filters first as it draws down a lot of the fluid. Less needs to be drained from the 4 drains, so less danger of the horizontal drains spattering the fluid over the floor. Check the front axle for proper level frequently after a change as its very possible for the oil to flow out the axle level check plug before the axle is really at the proper level. Thanks for your videos; they're very helpful.

As a Kubota technician, I saw no issue with the maintenance you performed, I was unaware of the razor knife trick for the transmission filter. I invested in a filter wrench made for large equipment and semi truck filters instead that is about 2ft long to do those. Sadly, the issue with the filters has persisted from the Standard L01 series to the new L02 series, but I guess I get to keep gratifying my investment.

Thanks Will! Glad you learned a new trick from the video, even though you have a honking tool to handle stubborn filters.
@Hugger4641

You should mention that for the 50hr service, unlike the engine oil, the hydraulic system requires only the filters to be changed, not the oil. However, if you change the "inlet filter" on the right side of the machine, you will lose a lot of oil unless you are quick to get the new filter spun back on. This is only true on the 50hr service, at the 200hr service and all subsequent services both filter and oil get changed.
@kevinkollman9162
@kevinkollman9162 3 жыл бұрын
I am ocd so the 50 hour fluid change on my 2009 B2920' I changed everything. It says just under one gallon' I let it drain all night and pulled both engine drain plugs and it took over 1 gal. Now I change engine oil and filter every 100 hrs. I did the hydro & 4WD at 400 and now every 400. I have 1200 hrs on it and it runs like new. never a problem //

If you keep the hydraulic plug in - you don't lose too much - I think I lost only about 1/2gal, but still a mess ; )

Could the tractor be tilted to the opposite side (blocks under tires) for the inlet filter to reduce the mess/fluid loss?

I am a first-time tractor owner. My L3901 DT will be delivered later today. I want to do the maintenance by the book. Just making sure I am 100% correct. For my tractor, the fluid changes include: Hydraulic fluid, 1 Hydraulic filter, Engine oil, and engine oil filter? Really appreciate your videos.
@DIYMyWay
@DIYMyWay 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike! Well according to my 2017 L3901 manual, at 50 hours you change the engine oil and filter and the transmission oil filter. At 200 hours you change the transmission oil filter again and every 200 hours after that. You don't change the hydraulic fluid and filter until 400 hours and every 400 hours after that. However, some Kubota models and other tractor makers have you change the hydraulic oil at the first 50 hours, then at 400 hours and every 400 hours after that. Bottom Line: follow your manual to the letter. Congrats on your new tractor and thanks for watching!

Hi Leon! I don’t see the point since tractors are serviced on hour intervals like 50, 100, 150, etc. and I follow the manual precisely on that. The only exception I can think of is if a tractor is under-used, that is only logging a small number of hours a year, in which case maybe you change the oil every couple of years. Then it would make since to put the date on it. Thanks for watching!

@@DIYMyWay the reason I ask is because I myself just bought a Kubota B3200 and I'm changing everything because there are no dates and I have no ida when anything was done to it.

Then yes, it’s best to change everything then get back on track with the schedule in the manual.

I did my 50 hour maintenance today. Went well just because of your videos. Thank you very much. One question though, when you removed the HST filter (I also had issues because it got stuck), I found quite a bit of metal shavings on the magnet. Did you have them as well and if so, how much? If you replaced the filter at 50 hours, did you find more shavings at 400 hour replacement? Thank you in advance for answer.
@DIYMyWay
@DIYMyWay 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Maxim! Glad to hear it went well. There was a moderate amount of shavings on the magnet at 400 hours. I did not change it at 5o hours because the manual of my model of tractor did not call for it until 400 hours. Thanks for watching!

Excellent Video. I have a LX2610 and approaching 50 hours. The manual states to only replace the transmission and hydraulic oil filters plus the engine oil and oil filter. My question is how much hydraulic oil should I expect to lose when replacing only the two filters and not the oil itself? Thank you!
@DIYMyWay
@DIYMyWay 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, David! I don't know how much hydraulic oil an LX2610 might lose changing the transmission oil filter because it depends on where the filter is located and how it is oriented. My L3901 loses only a small amount during the filter change. Thanks for watching!

Thanks, Dominic! Yes, that's right, since I'm guessing you don't have a filter for a manual transmission. Thanks for watching!

Martin 2 questions, please: Do you recommend running the tractor for a bit to warm up the hydraulic fluids prior to draining? Any tips on ensuring the fluids drain from the hydraulic lines?
@DIYMyWay
@DIYMyWay 2 жыл бұрын
In warm weather, no need to warm it up because of the naturally low viscosity of the fluid. If you are changing it in cold weather, it’s probably a good idea to warm it up. There is no practical way to flush all the line and cylinders (3-point and FEL) so some old fluid always remains and gets mixed wit the new. Thanks for watching!

How much metal shavings do you find on those magnetic rings during regular maintenance? I am thinking there would be a bit on a new machine but very little once the tractor is broken in and has a couple hundred hours on it. Is there and expected (safe..) amount of metal to find during each tractor service?
@DIYMyWay
@DIYMyWay 4 жыл бұрын
There was a good bit of metal shavings on it as I would expect for the first filter change. I certainly hope I’ll find a lot less when I change it again at 800 hours! Thanks for watching!

Another excellent DIY video sir! One question I may have missed it, but do either the transmission or hydraulic fluid filters have magnets? You mentioned the engine oil filter came with one.
@DIYMyWay
@DIYMyWay Жыл бұрын
Thanks again! As shown in the video, the hydraulic pump filter has a magnet and it had indeed intercepted a good bit of metal filings. It is the only filter on the L3901 that has a magnet.

@DIYMyWay
@DIYMyWay Жыл бұрын
Hi Aaron! That info should be in the manual. If not you can look it up on line or ask your dealer. Yes, the original factory filters get painted when the tractor is painted in the factory, which will make them very difficult to get off. Hint: use a utility knife to score all the way around where the filters meet the tractor then spray some WD40 on them seams. Let it sit for a while and it should be easier to get the filters off. Good luck!

I own an L3560. Does this video apply to my tractor? I understand that oil capacities might be different, but do the drain points correspond and the filter locations? Any advice is appreciated.
