Remember if 1 EMP goes off odds are a second one will go off. To make sure they got all the backup devices that people will take out and use. so if you're not using it, always put it back in its storage containers.

Hey, JR! I'm a 54yo woman, trying to prepare to take care of my elderly mother and myself when SHTF. I followed your instructions for the metal can faraday cage. It works perfectly!!! I put my phone in it & closed it up. It went straight to vm when a friend tried to call me. My solar generator fits great in it, along with many other things. I've made up a smaller can for quick access to LED flashlights and lanterns in the event of a power outage. Thank you so much!!!! If I can do this, ANYONE can!

Built my first metal trashcan Faraday cage and wrapped my solar panel boxes in 4 layers of heavy duty aluminum foil, was a good day. Going for some ammo boxes tomorrow and maybe one more trashcan and get all my solar battery stuff, cell phones, I even have an Android tablet and old phone loaded up with Survival PDFs/Books, gotta keep all that from frying! THANKS for this Video, exactly what I and I suspect the country needs, with some much crazy ramping up these days, just hope our luck holds, not sure I'm ready for what comes next!

You might be surprised to know a faraday cage doesn't necessarily require a complete metal enclosure with metal seals as long as there is a conductive metal skeleton completely surrounding the object(s) you're trying to protect. Electricity is magnetically attracted to any conductive metal with silver being at the top of the list. Aluminum is your best bet as well cheapest. What you have demonstrated here is excellent. I've seen it tested-- plus I built one very similar to yours by isolating the items in a non-conductive container, tape it up with aluminum tape and it's good to go.

Higher frequency signals can get through smaller openings, that's why the NOAA weather radio failed with the lid on, but the Cellphone was still in communication until you sealed those openings with foils layers. I'd think to connect your can to an earth ground would improve the function more.

Thank you for presenting the information in a simple yet practical way: the idea of popping a light inside the container to check for holes was inspired! I'd been thinking of using an old metal filing cabinet as my faraday cage - boxing up everything I want to save in their own cardboard boxes, then sealing all the gaps with aluminium tape, and finally wrapping the whole lot in aluminium foil - but I think I'm going splash out on a few metal bins instead (ammo cases are surprisingly hard to find here in Blighty). @@MR-nl8xr the theory is if the metal container is sealed from the phone radio waves it is sealed, but that is not really true. To accurately test you would need two radios attenuated at 462 to 467 mhz. One inside and one outside. If you can't receive through your faraday cage, it is good. An EMP, though upwards to 1 ghz, but only the high end frequencies (100s mhz) can couple into small electronics. So you need the 462/467 range. The more layers of shielding the better. 👍
@ericarnaud7983
@ericarnaud7983 Жыл бұрын
@@MR-nl8xr yes it does..look it up. Megahertz is the same measurement for waves such as sound and electromagnetic radiation. We are talking about keeping the range of around 100 mhtz away from your electronics witch will fry the components. Electromagnetic radiation travels in waves that range from very long radio waves to very short gamma waves. Look it up. You asked how a phone could be used in a u metal container to see if it would protect devices from electromagnetic pulse and I told you it can't..then I told you what can and you argue out of ignorance. You could also use an EMF meter that you read standard EMF signals off your computer or microwave stove or power lines. 😐

About the top gasket for the ammo can, you can use a length of stainless wrapped toilet feed line as your gasket, it just needs to be long enough to go all the way around the inside continuously and be stitched together with some fine copper wire to keep the metal Continuous. on the trashcan, you can sandblast the top inside of the lid and the top edge of the can to remove any residue of oil that is used in the manufacturing. Good Tips! carry on.

Thank you for your inspirational ideas. They definitely come into great use in this day & age. I think alot of people will be caught off guard if the inevitable happens. They'll be lost, confused and extremely upset relying on our govt. at that moment, but they forget about the important things that need to be done now, to be prepaired right now before an EMP happens. We all need to keep ourselves self-sufficient & operational, its all going to be more valuable after an EMP. Most will be cought up in their day to day living right now while the rest of us will do the small important things one at a time in order to maintain some sort of normalcy in living through desperate times. Scary, but true I think. As of doing this, we must keep ourselves protected in more ways than one, including self protection (self preservation). The way this world is headed its causing alot of anxiety in every govt around the world including most of its citizens. I hope we dont witness it in our lifetime including my children or grand-children. My mother taught us to be survivalists when we were young and she told me before she past away last month that she knew we were all capable of living in the backwoods taking care of ourselves and our family. Peace everyone! Good planning and looking out for yourselves if your interest are about survivablity in apocalyptic times.... Good luck! Jim~Massachusetts, USA 🇺🇸

whats more important is to store hardware reelated to survie during the blackouts . most of these electronics are going to be useless any ways as the cellular towers and transmitters will more than likely be knocked out during the Emp... hand tools of every type you can get . tools made from good quality steel and wood built to endure.. commodities that will have a good long storage life span along with supplies to endure the weather , ect. yes surval will be the key and having the tools to do it will be a neccessary thing to make it during the hard time ...and last of all get material written in books for info..on everything you think is important to teaching and learning.. i wouldnt count on the internet being a viable source of information during these EMP storms ..

For large items: start with a flat base . plywood covered with foil. Then take a card bord or wood box, like the one it came with or just so it will cover the generator/ large item ect . cover the box on the outside with foil and just around the rim. now turn the box upside down placing it over your generator/ large item. seal bottom with foil tape. Easy to install and remove by 1 person when needed.

I thought about a Faraday cage but then again if we have an EMP blast it will take out all systems leaving a computer and cell phone worthless. I think a CB radio might be a better option. However I think building one for the items he stored in there is brilliant and I never even thought about those items needing protection. Thanks, great video.

Could you wrap the original gasket on the ammo box in the foil for a seal/connection? And I might have missed it but do you add desiccant to prevent internal corrosion? Even a sock with oatmeal will keep it dry inside but store-bought is better.

Rather than using cardboard to line/insulate the side of the metal garbage can, I instead took a rubbermade garbage can, and cut off the handles, so that it would drop right into the can. I also try to leave items in their original packaging.

The ammo box with the tinfoil (and we used a shoe box instead of cutting cardboard) actually works and I can’t believe it! We’ve tried multiple different ways previously and no luck but this worked!! And we did sand the paint off the edges of the metal and put a phone in it and called and did not ring and went straight to voicemail

An EMP is pretty much a split second event. Occurs at the instant a nuclear explosion occurs....or the leading edge of a coronal mass ejection (CME) of sufficient intensity arrives from the sun. CMEs occur many times in a year. Only once in a great while does one occur that is strong enough to harm electronics. Research the "Carrington event" of 1859 for more info on that.
@dramspringfeald

What are you asking? An EMP is a pulse of radio waves that rolls though hitting anything with conductive material with an ungodly amount of energy. The aftermath however is likely 2-3 weeks for a major city infrastructure, months for small towns and years for most everything else.

Canadian prepper had an engineer from Nasa on his channel who created a chip that can pick up on radiation when it hits the above normal level. I bought some of these and when I checked it against the microwave it did light up about a little less then 1 foot from the microwave. I then took it upstairs to the router and my chip went CRAZY. So I turned the router to the wall but some of the waves were still bouncing back toward me and I had to put this faraday cage OVER AND BLOCKING THE ROUTER and now there is no more radiation triggering the chip.
