To think this guy was only 16 when he made boy in the corner is insane, that was easily the best grime album ever made. Dizzee Rascal will always be remembered as a grime artist like 2 Pac was remembered as a hip hop artist.

Remember tapin' this off pirate radio. The good old days... Also, respect to dude for putting grime on the map on HIS terms with this album. And yeah, his later albums became poppy. But let's be honest, most people on road were too busy downloading tunes for free - why shouldn't they then go for the markets where it actually pays for what you put in. The last time us I can remember grime-heads financially supporting grime was when everyone was pushing to make "POW!" number one in the charts. Good times.

I just listened to this song for the first time today without being too sure of what to expect and WOW I was not expecting it to sound this crazy. I've heard of Dizzee Rascal before but I'm not really familiar with his music or the Grime genre so listening to this song was refreshing to me as a Rap listener. I can't believe this song came out in 2003 because it honestly sounds ahead of its time. The rapid-fire lyrics over a pounding beat weren't really a thing in US Hip Hop in 2003. I definitely want to check out more Grime music after hearing this.
@sonikku956

Grime is one of the most unique genres to evolve out of electronic dance music. Can you believe there's a direct path line from songs like Don't Make Me Wait by Peach Boys to this?
@NebulousNova
@NebulousNova Жыл бұрын
@@sonikku956 The evolution is definitely interesting. When it comes to EDM influencing Rap music, it's entertaining to see how there was a time in the 1980s that Electro Rap was a really popular subgenre (especially on the west coast of the US). I feel like 80s Electro Rap more or less got the ball rolling for EDM's influence in rap music, leading it to get to where it is nowadays, where there have now been countless songs released that are notably influenced by Electronic Music. I also wonder what sort of influence the beat style of The Neptunes (Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo) had on the creation of the Grime beat sound (or the other way around), as I've heard a number of beats made by them that remind me of some Grime beats I've heard.
@caiollncoln
@caiollncoln Жыл бұрын
@@NebulousNovaIt's funny to see you saying that because I recently discovered music from the same period - but from my country - that gave rise to the grime style here too.

@@NebulousNovaI believe that every country that has a rap scene ends up developing this style with similar beats and contexts.
@NebulousNova
@NebulousNova Жыл бұрын
@@caiollncoln Interesting. Yeah, it's only natural that a genre's different regional scenes will evolve somewhat similarly as time goes on. On a slightly related note, I wonder if there are any interviews out there where a a UK Grime producer mentions a specific US producer as being one of their major inspirations as a beatmaker, because I know there have historically been numerous musical borrowings between the countries over the years (the "Drill" Rap music subgenre being a prime example.)

I'm 30 years old writing this in 2021. I got here after looking up the video fix up, look sharp because my almost 2 year old geeked out watching that dance scene on Paranorman. I JUST found this guy. Over a decade after this video was uploaded. I like him. THANK YOU! 😎👍

Remember sharing a headphone on a MP3 player in year 10 listening to these tunes. Dizzy was 🔥 back in the day! He could come back now and slaughter them all.

Can't say enough how much of a banger this one is. Dizzee is a badman for having the balls to bring out this music all those years ago. Also sick how you can listen to the instrumental and bop to this shit. Beat is nasty, flow is nasty, grime like this is fuckin narrrrrsty.

Nowadays Dizzee is a bit of a joke but this album is one of those milestones that set in motion the direction of the next almost 2 decades of British underground music, and Boy in da corner remains one of the best grime albums ever to this day IMO.
