This came out the year I was born, and apparently it was on the radio all the time, so my mom sang it to me when I was a baby and toddler. For years I assumed that it was just a lullaby that my mom had made up. It was hard, at first, when the remaster got big over the summer and I realized that something I'd always assumed was deeply personal had been a cultural product all the time. But, after thinking about it for a while, I think it's actually more beautiful that millions of people across the world know the subtle beauty of the words I thought belonged to only me.

When I was young, I was diagnosed with depression. Every day I can remember has just been a grey blur. But, everything changed when I heard the song, "Planet of the Bass," back in 97. It's hard to put into words just how significant this track was in my life, but I'll do my best. In the late '90s, the music landscape was undergoing a significant transformation, with electronic music and dance culture gaining momentum. "Planet of the Bass" emerged as a pioneering force in this movement. Its futuristic beats and otherworldly synths were unlike anything I had ever heard before. It felt as if the song had arrived from another dimension, transporting me to a realm where my depression had no place. At a time when I felt isolated and misunderstood, "Planet of the Bass" became my refuge. I immersed myself in its hypnotic rhythms, and as I danced to its pulsating beats, I discovered a connection to a larger community of like-minded souls. The dance floor became a sanctuary, a place where I could momentarily escape the weight of my depression and be enveloped by the collective energy of the music and the crowd. What struck me most about this song was its timeless quality. Despite being released in 1997, it never lost its relevance or its ability to captivate new generations. Its sound was a fusion of the past and the future, bridging the gap between the analog and digital worlds. This fusion was reflective of my own journey - a merging of past pain with a future filled with hope. "Planet of the Bass" also introduced me to the rich tapestry of electronic music, inspiring me to explore various subgenres and artists within the electronic music scene. I delved into trance, techno, and house, finding comfort and inspiration in the diverse soundscape that electronic music offered. Each new discovery felt like a step forward in my personal journey of self-discovery and healing. As the years went by, my relationship with "Planet of the Bass" deepened. It became more than just a song; it was a sonic diary of my life's ups and downs. I would revisit it during moments of joy, nostalgia, and even sorrow. Each time I pressed play, it was like flipping through the pages of my own history, a reminder of the progress I had made in my battle against depression. One of the most remarkable aspects of this song was its ability to evolve with me. It grew alongside my changing tastes and moods, adapting to the different phases of my life. During moments of celebration, it served as a euphoric anthem, infusing parties and gatherings with its infectious energy. In times of reflection, its melodies provided solace and introspection, allowing me to explore the intricate layers of my emotions. "Planet of the Bass" also became a symbol of hope and resilience for me. Whenever I faced setbacks or moments of self-doubt, I would turn to this song as a source of inspiration. Its relentless beats and futuristic soundscapes reminded me that no matter how daunting the challenges, there was a way to transcend them, to break free from the grey blur that once defined my existence. Beyond its musical qualities, "Planet of the Bass" was a portal to a world of creativity and self-expression. It sparked my curiosity about electronic music production and DJing, leading me to explore these realms myself. I began to experiment with synthesizers and sequencers, trying to capture even a fraction of the magic that this song had awakened within me. In doing so, I discovered a newfound sense of purpose and a means of channeling my emotions into art. Over the years, I had the privilege of experiencing "Planet of the Bass" in various settings, from intimate club nights to massive festival stages. Regardless of the venue, the song had a way of uniting people, transcending barriers and fostering a sense of unity among strangers. It was a testament to the universal language of music and its power to connect us on a profound level. In retrospect, "Planet of the Bass" has been a constant companion throughout my life's journey. It served as a bridge between my past struggles and the brighter future I envisioned. It's a reminder that even when life feels like a grey blur, there are moments of color and vibrancy waiting to be discovered. This song from 1997 continues to be a beacon of hope, a soundtrack to my ever-evolving story, and a testament to the enduring power of music in our lives. Looking back now, over two decades later, I can say with certainty that "Planet of the Bass" played a pivotal role in my life. It not only provided an escape from the suffocating grip of depression but also ignited a passion for music and creativity that continues to shape my existence. It taught me that even in the darkest of times, there are melodies and rhythms that can guide us toward the light. "Planet of the Bass" remains an enduring beacon of hope and transformation for me. It reminds me that music has the power to transcend time and space, touching the deepest recesses of our souls. This song from 1997 will forever hold a special place in my heart, a testament to the incredible journey of self-discovery, healing, and resilience that it ignited in me.
