This may sound obvious but the majority of the producers are from France, such as on this mix. Like, true Chicago House is funky and gritty and ghetto and soulful, etc. at the same time, which is great because there's a lot of Black essence infused into it. The French took that sound and made it their own with engineering and effects. There's a je ne sais quoi about it where you know its French or not if you have the ear for it. Funky, Disco, French; They're synonymous, mixable, but not the same

I never got why ppl label this as French house? Its funky house and I've been jamming it since 97 so when did the french stick a flag in it and claim ownership lol?

House music is house music but like gospel there are denominations or variations of a type of sound. French house has more of a techy repetative sound. Deep House is another variation, but they all fall under the awesome sound of house :)
