Nah they both killed it. They both gave us a clear story on their journey thru hiphop what the game is ,& has become. Both Face ,& Nas have given us classic albums. Both have equally earned their rights to stand side by side lyrically 2 different perspectives. Queens in collaboration with Houston the cultural bridge that connects the artist together ,& gives the real fans what they wanna hear ,& can feel that's real hiphop. What Face has done for hiphop the whole legend behind him with J-Prince Rap-a-Lot they locked up the south not to mention UGK PimpC , Bun B in conjunction with Scarface, & what they meant to the southern movement is legendary.

Nas is profound, ambivalent and clever with his assesment of hip hop, at first claiming it to be pure with a spiritual essence, brought him out of the ghetto and poverty but eventually realizing that it was dead and said so ("Hip Hop is Dead" which it was at the time, if not for Wayne in the mixtape circuit) but whack rappers took offense to that and then he realized that the rap game has changed significantly with it's depreciation and anybody being able to come on that he writes her off as "just a motherfucking whore". "Confused fans think she illuminates demonic (fans falsely claiming rappers to be in the Illuminati, who intrinsically makes hip hop an object of desire as opposed to a spiritual affection that Nas has), but she's the object of my affections, God's essence, God bless her." "I doubt I'll ever be the same. Ugh. Hallowed be thy name. Give me strength so I don't do this dame like Orenthal James." He mentions how it takes so many victims and spits them out if you don't adapt and commit...yesterday it was the ghost of who he was as well as Run DMC, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube and a host of others who passed away, today he is Drake, Wayne and 2 Chainz. It's clever how he uses their government names when he mentions rappers of the past. He does this for two reasons, one because Andre and O'Shea, rhymes with "host of others who passed away" and I think because it differentiates the rappers who were influential of the past, ones who have escaped hip-hop's clutches from the one's of present who are still in it. "If you wanna rap to this bitch, you must commit. Then you're a slave to your grave, you won't get out, you cannot quit. She menstruates 'Weekly' (bitches weekly, Diss to trashy tabloid gossip magazine Hip Hop Weekly, he got the opposite of what he received from the other magazines which was love.) Her 'Vibe' covers keep you warm, but 'The Source' to her heart is love...'Word Up!' 'Right On!' " - Sneaked in a shout out to classic hip hop publications while pondering on hip hop. He akins hip hop to having a malevolent nature kind of like a secret society where you have to commit to how it transforms you and the games it plays that Brad (Face), the veteran rapper, warned him about in his Ferrari which he didn't listen to, getting lost in cups of lean. Yet he never originally viewed it as such, giving it a more spiritual quality. One of many of Nas's jewels.

There's a gang of songs out here that should be classics, but the volume of music released these days because of new technology results in said songs being overlooked. I was hip to this off top, still gets rotation in the whip on a consistent basis, but looking at the comments, it seems like folks just hearing this for the first time. Thats crazy.
@Powerule237 жыл бұрын
One of the problems with the current generation is most artist and young fans only care about the sound of a song as opposed to the classic era where MC's cared about lyrics and wanted to be different than one another. You're right - dudes now can make songs on their computers, iron it out for cheap in a studio, and bingo, they made a song. Problem is, way too many are trying to sound like someone else.
@BreuckelensFinest7 жыл бұрын

Standing Ovation: two of the top 5 to 7 goats of all time rap. This song speaks for its self. I hope the younger generation understands why nas lyrically has the right to make an album on behalf of all the musicians ( artist/ rappers) from the 90's/ early 2000's, saying hip hop is dead. They literally survived all the east/ west coast deaths from the 90's with the 2 pac / biggie beef and are still making Goat trax after several different cycles of quote unquote. "In style music." Much love much respect to this sad song.

Not only the skill of wordplay or cadence carry they displayed here but the emotion you can feel through the empathy of imagery and music (which who they are also chastising here) is top tier of their craft.
