*Correction: the Rane MP2015 is a digital mixer not analog. I was fooled by the website's description: "the MP2015's analog soul and digital heart".
There's a lot of talk online about which DJ mixer sounds the best and why, so I wanted to find out for sure. I put three of the best DJ mixers available now head-to-head (along with one cheap mixer) to see how they differ in sound quality.
For each mixer I play a segment of my new song "The Dirty" at normal gain, then sweep the low pass and high pass filters, and then also push the gain into the red (clipping).
Two are digital, two are analog. Which one sounds the best to you and why? Let me know in the comments below, as well as which mixers you'd like me to shootout next!

That's very interesting to hear all of them side by side, Xone 92 was my favorite! What's interesting about DDM4000 is its Midi IN and OUT, very helpful for live performances using external gear, and not bad for the price! Thanks!

First of all, thanks for the comparison. You have made two mixer shootout videos, I can't understand why it doesn't have the xone 96, it has a better sound than the old 92, the honest thing in these tests was to have the xone 96 and not the old 92 against the V10, it is completely unfair ncomparison in many ways.. price, age of 92 etc...hopefully at some point we will see a comparison between xone 96 and DJM A9 , this is a real comparison that interests many prospective buyers.

Thank you for the kind words. I make the videos with what I have access to. I have access to a lot of mixers- I've borrowed some from friends (the Rane MP2015 - shout out to Pascal at Know Audio in Oakland for that favor), but I can't just buy all of the best mixers for a single video. The Pioneer V10 and Xone 92 are Halcyon's mixers. The Behringer DDM-4000 is mine. I'd be happy to do a video with the DJM A9 and the Xone 96 if you'd like to send them to me :)

I have the Rane MP2015 and hands down it's the best mixer I've ever owned, I first had a Pioneer DJM 900 Nexus Mixer which I replaced with a Allen and Heath DB4 which sound wise was a definite upgrade from the Pioneer, The Rane MP2015 leaves both of those mixers for dead with the sound quality.

same. Ive used a lot of mixers over 35+ years and its probably my favourite, not just for the clean sound but the features like the eq sub mix and kills switches, you have sooooo much control its crazy. . . its just absolutely unique, also outputting SPDIF at 96khz if you choose to!!... its phenomenal!! Looks utterly gorgeous aswell!!

Love these type of video, 6:04 filter on a&h is on, you are cutting low frequencies. For the future it would be nice to hear the filter resonance too, that's the real difference between pioneer and xone. on V10 was mid resonance, on xone was low. Hope to help you improve, still nice video.

When it comes to sound I converted to A and H many years ago as I just feel they're ahead of many others in that regard. Had a DB4 for a few years now and can't see me ever wanting any other mixer. The overall quality, filter quality and FX are just perfect for me.

Enjoyed the video. Own, owned a few of these models. The Xone 92R (purchased in 2001), overall best sound. A&H’s experience in music engineering, use of quality analog parts makes this my top choice. The feel, layout, convenience, amazing sound of the filters and the built in card makes the MP2015 a second choice. Sold it 4 years ago, still regret it. The DDM 4000 is very nice a a great value. I can’t afford the V10 but own the Nexus 2 for ease of use, flexibility and features it’s comes in third.

for you to achieve more accurate results you should consider some aspects as: -the output of the dj mixer to the input of your soundcard/recording device should be matched in all the dj mixers -when applying the filters, also consider the resonance knob on all the mixer to be equivalent. in my opinion should be one with minimum resonance, another with mid and another with max, because they have their own resonance, and that makes them really unique, especcially the rane mp2015 and xone 92. either way, these are 4 really good mixers to put side by side. I personally play with them a lot, except for the DDM-4000, and they all have a lot of things that really make them sound like themselves. also the xone 92 you have on the video is the one from china. the old one (made in the UK) has a really different sound saturation, especially when when it gets hot. (those mixers take some playing time to heat up and sound how they are supposed to)

I preferred it when you did short comparisons with quick cuts between the mixers to compare more easily. I really don't like the sound of that Rane - it sounds too tinny and thin - crispy. The 92 is my followed by the V10. The 92 sound a bit more punchy / dynamic and slightly more thee dimensional. The Behringer has a very similar and tonality to the V10 but not as in your face or punchy - not bad at all. The V10 is much closer to the 92 than the 900 was in your previous demos. I can see why every DJ I see live plays with this - almost as good sounding as the 92 (incredibly minor difference) but way more effects to have fun with. The filter sounds much better on the v10 than the 900 too - I don't like that whole pioneer artificial resonance sound. 92 filters - of course - the best.

the filters have a dedicated pot to dial in the resonance on the MP2015 (just above his ring finger when he's using the filter), you can can either dial it out completely or have tonnes of it, I always have it with just a tiny bit of resonance, he had it quite high for this video...way more than i'd ever use.

Exactly. They all sound great to me. The point of these videos is to show that there's a very small difference in overall sound quality as far as the listener is concerned. What is more important is features, price point, and ergonomics.

@@ScottBrio I have the V10, which I love dearly. But I haven’t had the chance to test the Rane MP2015. And I really wanted to hear your opinion between the two. There this female DJ that has the best review on KZbin on the unit but still falls on what I want to hear.
@ScottBrio
@ScottBrio Жыл бұрын
@@ONEHENDRIX honestly, the difference in sound is so small that it doesn't really make a difference. I've worked in the nightlife industry for almost a decade now, thrown many parties, been to many raves... at the end of the day what makes a mixer sound "best" is the quality of music you download and how good you are at using the mixer. Any mixer. We could have Diplo play on the DDM-4000 and nobody in the audience would know the difference. The Pioneer mixers, especially the V10, handle distortion very well digitally. Maybe the best in the industry IMO. Analog mixers handle distortion naturally which is pleasing to the ears, but it often comes with potential downfalls like the mixer not sounding as "loud" as a mixer like the V10 which has an internal digital limiter. For the most part, with current technology any mixer or pro audio product will sound pretty great as long as the gain-staging is right and the source audio signal is clean.

Iam right or not canal on rane is not full open on rotary knob?? Panorama on rane is so impresive and filters blow my mind but punchy bass is the best on v10 (ITS TYPICAL CHARACTERISTIC FOR PIONERR MIXER AS A PRIMARY MIXER IN CLUB ENVIROMENT) GREAT STUFF GREAT EFFORT MANY THANKS BRO REGARDS FROM ADEK😉

The Rane regardless of components carried the Best natural Analog sound. For L.P's & Cassettes would be my choice. The Xone has a good club (punch) refrained & firm. The Pioneer is a Beauty of sound. Behringer I have the 2000 gets the job done, I have a Yamaha Mixer also that is great. My gripe is these High Priced Mixers do NOT have HDMI connection or Laptop Computer connection. The Engineers need a firm & proper back of the Head swatttttt

The speakers, amps and processors are way more important then these mixers ;). I ve heard so many times 'i play only with allen and heath', but at the end it makes no diference. Better to inject and audio signal into the mixers and check for real thd. Ill choose the cleaner one and then play with the processors and adjust to my liking. Nice video man.
