The Lab NYC is BULLDOG Gin and Mixmag's weekly live stream and post-work unwind, where we showcase the finest DJs direct from our Brooklyn office. This Saturday, December 14, the UK house music aficionado, Richy Ahmed is stopping by the office to share his flaming hot house as part of a special Elrow takeover this weekend.
Hailing from Chicago, DJ Pierre is easily known as one of house music’s pioneers. At the start of the house movement, he gained inspiration from founders such as Frankie Knuckles, Ron Hardy and Farley “Jackmaster” Funk. Alongside Phuture members, DJ Spank Spank and Herb J, he managed to innovate an entirely new genre of house music with their infamous 1987 hit, ‘Acid Tracks’. Released on Trax Records, it featured the all-too-recognizable squelching sound of the Roland TB-303, setting the foundation for the acid sound. Since his initial breakthrough, Pierre has released inumerable tracks including ‘Your Only Friend,’ ‘Box Energy’, and ‘We are Phuture’ under several different aliases, presenting his prolific success as both a DJ and a producer. The LAB Atlanta will be an opportunity to tune into his legacy in an intimate setting.

still amazing love and dance -0 but help the kids out - no false adverts - no bullshit - its not an acid set its got disco and classics - genres suck anyways, but I used to buy your mag and sell it in my record store for years - and we saw house grow, ooops more roots more things etc - but your the publisher and we have enough bullshit so just be careful or the kids who didnt grow up in the old days will start calling disco ACID - i mean deep house is deep house its not vocal house - i.e anything that has a full on vocal all over it is one reason its not deep house... how can it be deep - dub is dub - instrumental is just that etc but to make a point : strictly rhythm was just that, however a voice can have rhythm i believe so its a big mess of genres, house music is very difficult to ID and or put in a BOX - thats the point of the worlds most prolific music todate, its past and surpassed everything and every type proceeding it... JAZZ, funk, HIPHOP, ROCK AND ROCK etc, and in the future probably will be surpassed and not relevant any more. In my humblest of opinions all and every other type of music prior to house was a precursor to the beginnings... i.e talking heads and other progs - punk funk its goes on forever, so all we love in house and its versions of versions will perhaps one day be another precursor to something new we never heard before... - Acid Tracks" is what DJ P and co have some connection to this term, ACID is also connected sampling - sample - ile ACID test - the TB303 of course and im sure the writers of the wonderful mix mag would agree its not an acid set... - I used by the TRAXX off the van man for the store and I loved to here the tracks, i danced in the Hacienda - i wac there at the day one for the QUADARANT PARK first ever legal warehouse rave I hosted over 500 parties and im not being anal here but we should try to find some balance of truth in a dance movement thats not false news ... thats why we danced in the first p[lace.. just my 2 cents. - I mean whats EDM electronic dance music? WHATS DANCE MUSIC? music you can dance to ? - its all ridiculous, everything is electric BTW... great track we are electric - old skool ramble over - i LOVE this shit. have a great day
