I read some of these comments and I really feel sorry for some of the writers of them...imagine some1 questions soca's originality.The word soca itself is a fusion of soul and calypso! Its pitiful when ppl are ignorant to even this simple fact.Soca will continue to evolve and with it will bring us interesting fusions! Bring it on I say Terri.

All the new music is marketed under the name "Soca". Some people feel the need to criticize but the evolution will continue and sound will "change". However, for those who believe that Soca should sound a 'certain way' please pay attention to the rhythm coming from the drum kit... Soca music!

Trinidad music has really lost its originality, or were we ever originals? The sweet whine, GONE, copying Jamaican bubbling; real soca GONE, you hear one you hear all,; everyone on the same rhythm; backup dancers dancing like Cheerleaders and gymnastics. Now soca is copying Afrobeats.

I see it more as innovation not losing originality. Otherwise, the style would get stale. Fusions & Mashup are not necessarily bad just a new genre and different take. I feel the same when Zouk & soca collab. Then again I'm a fan of zouk and afrobeat so I may be biased.

It depends where you're looking. Not all soca is Machel, Patrice and Bunji. Some artists like Nailah, Mical Teja, Kes, Freetown and Voice are still doing big, innovative things with the origins of kaiso and soca. Check out a mix on my channel from the beginning of the year.

Then I don't bother to buy the tune because everybody have the same tune. Now these back up dancers dancing like its gymnastics and all of the almost look like white girls. Where this new thing come from? The old soca music is so much sweeter.

@@nyalltavernier6218 There is no innovation in that, you only loose what is yours..Every country should have something that define them and set them apart. now all around the world everybody dancing the same, sounding the same etc. The whole caribbean soca music sound the same, some even sweeter than Trini soca. Trinidad was the mecca real calypso, soca and for sweet whime, now its lost its glory. Take a good look.
