Rest in peace to Edward Benz. He died December 3rd, 2018. You can find his obituary online, “edward Benz, Grand Rapids obituary”. Amazing review of the song, I love the way you broke down the whole song and admired the way the band works up to the finale and the transitions. Love this band!! They give me chills every time.

I know La dispute wont bring much more views but i think their songs are so good its worth it La Dispute - I see everything La Dispute- U and I in unison LA dispute- fall down and never get back up

So happy to see someone else appreciate the storytelling of La Dispute. I’ve loved them since their album Vancouver. There are songs of theirs that absolutely wreck me. “Andria” is one, but for personal reasons. Their first three albums and their split with Touché Amore doesn’t have a single bad song.

I’m glad to see more reactions to other La Dispute songs. I love King Park, but that’s like the only one people react to and this whole album is a masterpiece. That run of King Park, Edward Benz, and I See Everything on the album back to back to back is just absolute perfection.

One of the things I think about when I listen to this song is how easy it would be to stab someone 27 times in a heat of the moment situation. It’s terrifying to think about that, and then apply it to the song. His son was probably in a fog, felt threatened, and before running up the stairs he probably broke through that fog for a moment realizing what he was actually doing. It’s surreal to try and put yourself into something so excellently described like this, and really sad.

You should check out their Audiotree session. It is a live in-studio session they did and it is, IMO, even better than their album versions. The first one I'd recommend is "La Dispute - A Letter - Audiotree Live"

This album is a concept album about pain and suffering or so ive heard.

It's more about dealing with loss. The actual album story is about a breakup.

It's always worth mentioning that less than 1% of the mentally ill are ever violent. 99% of the time mentally ill people are more of a threat to themselves than anyone else. Unfortunately, this was a really depressing exception.

@@AlphaTylerContent as are you :) I know these guys. When they started they played a local spot every week or so where I lived, In howell mi. at the time. They blew up. I also knew chiodos from living in fenton before they blew up, had to kick the drummer out of a party lol.They both blew up and it was good to see.

@@johnsonjay60 he certainly is! I’ll point out that I don’t think the two bands sound the same over all. The specific reference I made here was to the similarity between this song and Norma Jean’s Anti Mother album. That album has a distinct sound which isn’t too similar to the rest of their work, and includes a lot of lyrical content revolving around spiritual battles. If you haven’t listened to Surrender Your Sons from that album, id suggest giving it a go before outright dismissing the comparison. At the end, I love both groups. They each bring something distinctly unique out of their music and each is quite refreshing to me.
