See the problem here is, you have a NYC DJ talking about the Philly DJ Culture that he WASN"T apart of. He is WAAAAAAY off when he says that everybody was copying Jeff and Cash. He doesn't know the history about Philly DJs at the time like Cosmic Kev BEFORE Power 99 -- who is one the most underrated Philly DJ. as far as his contribution to the art form. Both Cash and Jeff learned from him but that story is never told. Jeff learned almost everything from Cash, which Cash FINALLY told it to the Class he was featured in by Rob Swift. Philly DJs were ahead of everybody in the world at that time. Jeff was an acquaintance, I worked at Bird's Nest Studio with Miz, and I know Kev too. I lived in Cali for a short time in the mid 80s and know for a fact that DJ's like The Prince of Charm (RIP) spread tapes of Cash around. Scratch doesn't know about Cosmic Kev, Grand Master Nell, Master Vic, and the list goes on. Kev was before Jeff and Cash and Nell was big before Kev. I respect Scratch and love what he's doing but he should let those where there tell the story. Maybe he'll have as show with Cash, Jeff, Kev, Miz, Nell and others come together and actually show the scratch they invented. The short story of Philly success was simple. Biting a DJs scratch was like biting somebody's rhyme back then. DJs would fight over that and the Philly crowd's were connoisseurs to the scratch. Also, there would be parties with 4 or 5 DJs playing that night so you had to be good because it was always like a battle going on. Also, the sound was just as important: Gary-O Grand Masters of Funk, Disco Rat, Sound Stage, Captain Boogie -- Dude would bring a WALL of sound and get it in. Philly DJ's lets start speaking for ourselves because these dudes keep getting the history wrong.

I think you overlooked the fact that he acknowledged the role Philly played in leading the way in the DJ field. If you want the story to be told, then maybe that's a project you may have to do.

Definitely, Reggie Reg. quake-001, do you have the resources/access to put a film together with all those Philly DJs?

Again, much respect to Scratch for what he is doing. No, shade to him and I appreciate the nod to Philly. What I’m saying is that there is so much more to the story that ALL those On the outside don’t know or have. To answer your question though. A lot of footage has been lost but, I can definitely put you in touch with one or two of the DJs I’ve mentioned and possibly more with connects. So if Scratch or anyone doing a legitimate project wants to get in touch with them; that can happen

You forgot DJ Miz from Philly. He was just as good as Cash Money & Jazzy Jeff.

Like I said, the DJ's after Cash & Jeff were only doing what Cash & Jeff did. Dope DJ's yes, but were doing what they saw their OG's were doing. Miz even did Cash Money's "Play This Only At Night" routine from the DMC in a battle exactly like Cash did. Honorable mention to DJ Doodles, another incredible Philly DJ that has his own style.

ScratchVision True. Forgot you mentioned the others as the OG's specifically. And you're right. I also heard that a different Philly DJ originally invented the Transformer Scratch. Don't recall his name, but whomever told me this cited JJ & CM as those who "popularized" the scratch. Anyway, great interview! Keep killing sh*t, Mr. "I'mma Play Jason."

Carnage The Executioner You’re talking about the original Spinbad. There’s also Grand Wizard Rasheem that taught Cash. They didn’t make an impact like their students did. The students became greater than the teachers.
