@@trentbateman its also because in entroducing he was using a mpc and sampling. many of his new music is using computers and ableton and just different style of music as a whole. I wish he made a sample based instrumental album again. he could 100% make the same magic. sad he never made one.

Endtroducing not only changed my life, it also changed music as a whole. It’s the bravest album of its time and sounds as fresh today as it did in ‘96.

This was hand-down the best interview I’ve ever heard with DJ Shadow. The interviewer knew his shit and asked questions I’ve been dying to hear as a fan. I love people who are true hip hop patriots, who know what sounds dope and who have a conversation rather than a status quo interview. Mad respect. I LOVE DJ Shadow. Thanks for asking the right questions.

One thing i can point out, which does not connect directly to the whole convertation,is the fact that even though producing and beatmaking has skyrocketed when it comes to technics, turntablism is rotting at the same stuff.Even the gear we get is usually focusing on doing stuff that are already done for years, just easier.Meanwhile gear that opens up the space for new fresh stuff are just slept on,for example reloop released a turntable that allows you to tone shift on the go through shifting the driver speed, pretty much with two of these and two instrumental records you can play piano on turntables, yet the only people that have messed with them are some DJ that are directly working for the company and are messing just for promotional reasons. Turntablism has endless space to come back and hit harder than ever, yet the best DJs are just reproducing and reconsuming the same things we got at early '00.

Great point. Reminds me of what DJ Kentaro in Japan has done. Though I think he was more needle dropping on guitar rifs and quick fades. What brand of tables are those you spoke of? I'm on older Vestex Pdx straight arm decks myself. Thanks

@@tinhatrancher904 Reloop RP-8000 mk2 are the one that have analogue controls over the plates, just like (and inspired by) vestax one or the midi function of PDX 3000. The mk1 give you somewhat of the same controls but only through software. Then there is also the Denon SC5000 M and SC6000 M that are media players with motorized platters, same controls as a midi controller but with the Engine OS of Denon (no pc needed). Finally the loopers right now are going crazy as well as the loops vinyls released lately.

Nah, he misses the point. It's not just coz it was most people's debut at hearing him. When he ditched the '60, he lost something and you can feel the difference in the stuff. 26.2 and, indeed, the 4-track stuff too. Limitation DOES breed creativity. Focuses the mind. The cleaner the stuff has got, the newer the equipment used and the more it has the option to be (over-)'produced', the less soul it has. The ears can hear it and the heart and mind know. The reason Neil Young has the sort of longevity he does is coz he made Harvest Moon (a sequel to his most classic album, by the way), at a time when his golden age was just coming back into fashion, and then he got in with the grungers, earning him street cred and a new generation of fans, getting him past his dodgy 80s period and giving him a complete revitalisation. Makes it sound like Harvest Moon was a cynical ploy but it had genuine artistic intent and has some of my fave tracks of his on. Ditch the UNableton!

I agree I’ve even realized for myself personally once I had access to more technology and resources it wasn’t necessarily making my music better or more creative, just more polished, it’s hard to stay primitive nowadays with all the computer programs we have at our disposal

What happened to this guy? He used to be a musical genius? His fans, like me, didn't leave him, he left us. He went from being an ambient, heavy sampling, creative, experimental DJ to being nothing. All of his new stuff is just cheap rap music. His newer albums are just rappers rapping with cheap, generic beats. There is no more sampling or creativity really. After the Private Press & In Tune & On Time, he's not putting out anything good, its like cheap dollar store rap. If this is who he really is, then he was just fooling everyone in the beginning. I'm sure he made millions from that Chevy commercial that used his old song "Building Steam with a grain of salt" .
