I saw GMS live on Mt Fuji in June 1998 I think, it was a party put on by Hiro (Sharaku) and there were not many people there. Managed to score some of the finest and when they came on about 1am, they kicked off with this track. Fantastic party and gave me an insight into their music. Then they came back again for a Vision Quest party at the infamous Yokohama Bay Hall in January 1999 I think. That party was a killer, absolute blinder, I have never seen a party go so mental and only in Japan. The place went absolutely bonkers. Got me really hooked on their sound. Then they were booked for another Vision Quest party out doors in Nagano with Koxbox. and Sunproject. When we got to the party GMS did a no show however Koxbox played for a full 2hours of some of the most mind bending music I have ever heard. And then lastly it must have been early 2000 they came back for another Vision Quest party , this time with X DReam. At Ageha Odaiba, too many people, they had really lost their edge and sounded dull. Gotta say, the period they were making music from 97-2000 they really had a unique but mad funny sound and were totally leading the way ,Hands down they could rock a party. The Samothraki Vid shows how much they could wind up the crowd. Then shortly before I left Japan.in mid 2000, Christof came to Tokyo and did a small party in a quite small club in Shibuya. He played the then unreleased Spun compilation Systembusters pretty much in its entirety and I had to ask him what the tracks were. GMS he said, absolute killer, all of them. Although we had heard Slingshot a million times by then and starwars, they still rocked the party. Post 2000, they really changed their sound and haven;t had the stomach to listen to any of it. Was sad when Bansi died as he was more than likely the evil genius behind their wacky sound. If you like their early sound, you can find a mix on Goat Ranch by Marsh called Howling Glad Scientists which covers this early period well of them.

WOW COOOOOL - thank you for sharing these memories. I was at that Yokohama Bay Hall party too - pretty sure it was either later in 98 but more likely after March 99 (I was away for a couple of months early 99) but I could be wrong... in any case, I remember how their DAT mixing was absolutely astounding - great party!

In relation to the "vocal" qualities of this amazing track, Mushroomman - Crystaldelic has a similar mood - are you familiar with it?
