i had to jump back into some DJ SPINBAD mixes again for the 100th time in my life for inspiration. Im buggin I Still can't believe he is gone. This news really sucks. DJS KNOW! He lives forever thru his mixtapes tho , his mixes , what went thru his mind while making these moving , living musically visual art pieces. Its just amazing how well he spoke with his hands and had djs scratching thier heads in amazement on how the fuck he did that. He broke records down like no other. would take any little sound in between a high hat , dead air and snare and obscure random less then a second in length NOISE and rip the holy hell out of it and break that shit down in another universe.. another dimension of sound. Spin knew how and Would let the record breathe in just the right amount of time.. but add so much funk to it as well making it his own , the shit Sounded so good and gave us all chills! And in ANY STYLE OF MUSIC , before that was even a trend in dj culture. "Open format" he resented that term b.c he was one of the godfathers of that style. Spin had the craziest blends unimaginable to humans and we just couldn't comprehend how he did that. One of the Best Djs who represented the art form to the fullest. Like i said yesterday a true JEDI AND A SITH! Hes now with the Gods in heaven , rocking records and breaks making angels jaws drop in amazement saying wait? How did he just do that? #ripdjspinbad

I get him... it's not about "seeing" the scratch with your eyes... Once he shows you the movement and get's into use your ears and your mind to hear what he's saying while he's doing it... Salute and respect DJ. The hardest thing for me right now is finding a way of holding and finessing the cross-fader... Something else those seeking to learn "need" to learn is how to get both hands to where they can work together but independently at the same damn time. Once you realize how to focus, boom!!!

These days a lot techno djs just sync up music together and play a couple of samples, so I appreciate whenever I hear someone actually scratching, like Dj AM. Too bad he passed away though.

Any decent record shop but if there's none nearby, Amazon or google who sells online in your country. I'd suggest either any DJ Rectangle-Ultimate Battle Weapons or Q-Bert's-Needle Thrashers both have a decent mix of scratch samples and beats though Rectangle's probably has more recognisable samples if you're starting out.

I started scratching in 1989 I had a pair of 1200MK2 to start with but my dad had a 1210MK2. He let me borrow it and connect 3 decks together so I could record some megamix styled work and I could notice that the pull on the platter was twice as much as my 1200s it would screw me up when I did beat juggling on the 1200/1210. If you own two 1210MK2 I dont think you would ever notice. Its slight but enough for me not to mess with them. MK5 has adjustable torque for this very reason. nm .03 to .06

Actually, Jazzy Jeff gets the credit because he was the first person to use the chirp in its fulls potential. Most cats back then were use basic pattern and simple chirps. But Jeff introduced his musical style of chirping during New Music Seminar and the chirp hasn't been the same since.
@milesIronwood9317 жыл бұрын
Wow! I actually got most of that if not all. i would be able to do a crab scratch if i had a mixer that wasn't crap. Keep up the good work. =)

there is no right or wrong way of doing flares. as you said twiddles sound different from regular clicked flares. that is why you should learn both methods. this will allow you to make more versatile combinations.

I don't get why most don't understand... There R 2 elements working here... the vinyl & the crossfader... U have 2 be able 2 do 2 things @ once... the vinyl has 2 stay on point w/ whatever sound U R using... (fast or slow) the crossfader is just the cut-off 4 the sound & can be adjusted 2 what ever skill level U R @ & your particular style... as 2 w/ records he uses, probably battle weapon or sounds & samples vinyl... (rare now depending on your style) btw - I'm a power mixer not a scratch dj

If you are going to do hiphop mixing and scratching then I would go with a Vestax since they are cheaper and are quality. If you had 3 times as much money buy the Rane they are super quality. The stanton mixers are ok but I feel like if you are going to do battle style djing like beat juggling and scratching stick with Rane/Vestax. Stanton started out as more of a club mixer, I am sure they have a battle size mixer out for sure 6 to 10" to compete with other brands.

its a hip hop think that you dont understand. scratching is an art that was created in the early days of hiphop when dj's like Spinbad and jazzy jeff use to battle at high school parties in philly. Just like bands battle, Mcs battle, guitars players battle. So do dj's. you have to have an aquired taste for the art. if you dont appreciate it you don't know what hip hop is.

No you are wrong sir. The 1210MK2 was meant for European use. It has a 2 prong AC plug on it and the torque is different than a 1200Mk2, if you scratch it is completely noticable. And yes it is also black.

You are going to need two techs. The only techs I do not like is the 1210MK2 which has the Euro power cord. The torque on it sucks. Get the 1200MK2, 1200M3D, 1200MK5 if you got the money get the 1210MK5 or 1210MK5G. Try used off craigslist I was able to grab a close to brand new 1200M3D for $225. I picked up a Vestax PMC06 battle mixer for $125 used in perfect condition. You will need needles for it as well, for scratching the Sure-M447 are good, buy them new not used, around $60 per cart/stylus
