Today we take a look around HMP Featherstone, New Rd, Featherstone, Wolverhampton WV10 7PU.
We are joined by ‪@BareBritainAudits‬ on this one, as we walk around all the publicly accessible areas of this Her Majesty's Prison Service run establishment.
We see many interesting things and speak to many people, including a prisoner serving the last 4 months of his sentence (face blurred).
We get told we can't film, get threatened with a spade, and eventually 2 Police Units arrive.
Enjoy!
Thanks to @Carl & Alison Positive Audio Liverpool who donated the drone music for this video. To listen to the Music & Drone Footage only, see this Playlist - • DJ Audits / D.a.v.i.d....

This episode is one of the best, with its Dickensian cast of characters: the gentle prisoner, the rude gardener threatening with a shovel, a group of intelligent and well-mannered police officers, and the main character whose adventures lead to confrontations from which he escapes with the adroit use of superior legal, linguistic and social skills. [Applause]

Once again it is the highly trained firearms guys who are the coolest and know the law. They do not tend to guess or invent convenient laws to suit their selves. So it shows what is needed to bring our police up to a acceptable standard........a properly recruited and competently trained police force.

@Tom Foster . I think that is my point. It appears today that too many of the everyday PCs are not of the calibre we the public deserve. We are at danger from their often under mature personality types. They are often a danger to the public even without a gun. We want a unarmed police force, but staff by officers that could be trusted with guns. Then we would sll be safer.

Hence why they have this approach as they have been carefully VETTED an examined by many professionals within the police to make sure they make the mark and can handle different high volatile situations and also normal ones and I'd say they have to have a minimum of 7 maybe 10 years service b4 being able to become firearms officer

Just to clarify some points; It sounds like you confuse rank with role. All officers start off at the rank of PC and must complete a compulsory probation period of 2 years (with the exception of direct DC entry which still requires the compulsory 2 years probation as a PC before automatic promotion to DC where more training is done) After the 2 years probation officers are eligible to apply to a specialist role (depending on if they are recruiting) specialist roles include firearms, dogs, mounted etc. Promotion is also eligible after 2 years probation but requires the officer to sit further exams and interviews as well as commendations from their supervision Officers can put themselves forward to be trained to carry taser however this is not classified as a specialist role as such although can sometimes be considered one The black bonnet of the police cars is usually a good indication they are part of a specialist unit within the force and is there to stop glare into the drivers eyes from the sun In regards to level of training. All PCs are trained in first aid as well as all the other aspects you would expect When officers specialise they receive extra training related to that role for example firearms handling, advanced first aid etc Also when a call comes in the call handler will assign it a grade from 1 to 4 a grade 1 is an immediate response on blue lights. The closest officers will attend therfore you may find firearms officers will attend this is not because they have been specifically asked to attend it is because they were the closest to respond Many specialist roles will continue to carry out routine policing roles when not acting in a specialist capacity so this is why firearms officers may attend a non firearms incident Hope this helps you understand things a bit more clearly

To anyone wondering about the prisoner working on site. It is a productive way for inmates to use the time they spend inside, it comes with wages that vary on the level of responsibility and allows inmates an opportunity to show dependability, with good effort can offer some a shorter sentence or a greater possibility of relocating to a prison closer to loved ones.

DJ whilst I enjoy many of your audits, I think you should stay away from prisons. please consider the staff and the job they have to do. Believe me, you have no idea what they have to deal with on a day to day basis. And to have somebody turning up randomly and taking videos is a bad thing. I speak with experience after 23 years of service. We were always so busy, and to lose staff so that they can investigate a potential intruder ? hostile reconnaissance ? can potentially put staff remaining on the wings in danger. Their natural response is to be suspicious, as I would be. It would be a good thing to think all auditors would take this into consideration ? when it is prisons, police, secure establishments. I also think the use of drones during some audits is turning public opinion against any drone flying, including hobbyists such as myself. There is a growing anger amongst the drone flying community about the harm done flying over police buildings, even though legal.

I don't what you are wanting to achieve? Outside of a non interesting building that frankly could be anywhere in the country. Your "not normal behaviour" of filming uninteresting buildings once again leads to staff noting your "not normal behaviour" ( which is to say that they won't see this type of behaviour alot). Because you then continue with this behaviour it leads to once again wasting police time and money. I just don't get it?

Rights are like muscles. You have to flex them every so often otherwise they become useless. filming on public property is annoying but its still a right. Can't make being a asshole a crime

Excellent audit. This one had the potential to go pear shaped but the way it was handled negated that probability. The dude with the shovel didn't quite dig it. The majority of police should really watch how these officers behaved. Nice one DJ!

From the internet. Still no idea why they are like this or who started it. Orange five point star - Armed response unit. Orange square - Public order unit (riot cops). Orange circle - General patrol unit (traffic, response, local neighborhood units). Orange triangle - Dog unit. Green cross - Officer medic (though usually on the officers uniform and not on the vehicle, and usually they are on patrol as part of a bigger ARV or public order unit).

I think you handle the situations very well and it mitigates (for the most part) the chances of escalation but on the other hand I don't know if it educates those who think they can demand answers to questions. I think they still walk away with the perception that their entitlement has been satisfied by your response. Personally I wouldn't worry about recording someone who was a prisoner but in full view of the public. There are programs on television that show people being arrested by police all the time.
