Definitely a great thing to learn and accept the sync button as a friend for transitions. Learned how to make the fader 'wide' on serato by holding shift and keylock. Thank You Carlo!
@DJJ.Mckay7210 күн бұрын
I been DJing since 1994. I know how to manually mix, and sync. Sync is nice for flawless mixes. I’m still old school when it comes to learning the new software. Learned a lot from using serato over the years. Smart sync is nice too. It’s hard sometimes to figure out when I’m recording a mix, why the bpm stay the same throughout the mix? On turntables, you just gradually increase or decrease the track. Serato both songs are locked in. Would rather sync one song at a time hitting the sync button every time a new track is loaded. Otherwise, you cannot play anything that is out of bpm range without it affecting the mix. Keeping the key lock on helps too. Also, editing beat grids is challenging too. Every time I change one down beat, the next one I edit, it shifts everything over? Why can’t you edit one down beat at a time without it affecting the ones you fixed if they all need to be adjusted? Overall, I love seato sync feature. One thing that benefits me is my beat matching skills. I have the ear to know when an issue arrives where I can adjust the track when the beat grid is off. That is something I’m glad I had learned early on. I think at some point everyone should learn it. You never know if your sync won’t work with a track that is off that forces you to manually adjust it. Especially if you are in the middle of a gig.
@djcarlo6 күн бұрын
Well done Mckay! I think the issue with the sync might be your master tempo. You'll need to switch that one around, otherwise, you'll get stuck with the same BPM throughout your mix! :D
@DJJ.Mckay725 күн бұрын
@@djcarlo Yeah, I had an issue when I was doing a 60’s mix the other day! I ended up increasing the bpm gradually so it is not being played at a slower speed. I keep track when the bpm start to increase. I went from 125 bpm to 160 bpm. I ended up realizing that you can speed up the bpm. I usually do it when I’m mixing in the track. Less noticeable.

Using sync is fine, so long as people respect and make the most of its advantages, like with techniques like this! When I did my first dj gig I had nothing except traktor on a laptop and a portable mouse (no controller!) and the guys I was playing with were all on vinyl. I was very aware of the advantages I had, so made the most of it. So I made sure I was mixing harmonically, mixing fast, using effects and utilising all 4 decks - doing things which were impossible or at least difficult with turntables. If I had played a set which was no more technical than what the guys on turntables were spinning, then that would be lazy of me, I was aware of the advantages I had with sync so I used them! I since got a set of turn tables and 11 years on I’m about to get my first controller!

@post-mastersodium31365 жыл бұрын
I got no problems with sync, if used right. This tutorial is a good example, and a technique I use myself. I don't even care if a DJ just uses it to match the tempo. There's very little difference between tapping that sync button, and matching your tempo just looking at the bpm counter. I don't like if the beatgrid is off and a DJ trainwrecks because they are too reliant on sync and didn't bother to prepare/check their track beforehand. As someone who spent years manually beatmatching on turntables, I'm glad there's ways to speed up the workflow. Even better these things can give us new and creative ways to mix songs together.

Seems like a very good place to use sync, in my opinion. If you want to simultaneously adjust the tempos of two different tracks, then sync seems to be the way to do that. The reason I wouldn't use sync for general use is that I would want the control of being able to easily move back into tempo once the new song begins and it gets confusing if you don't have the tempo faders in the 'real' position, even if you disengage sync once the new track if playing by itself.
