Although funny haha, it gravitates towards the "I know better than you" vibe. It's really not hard to please everyone, regardless of what is said through friends and mainstream. The trick resides in psychy. Allowing someone to feel as if they're "part" of something, makes a world of difference. Lying is not what I'm advocating lol. EX: I'll speed up a song by 30 bpm if it allows it, and no one notices and the requester is pleased. And like the comment I posted prior to this one, amp them up by rerouting their focus on finding a song that grabs the crowds attention, if you have a large base of musical knowledge, give them ideas or songs related to what they're requesting that aren't "mood deflaters". Let them know you care. Be a buddy. If that doesn't work, just drop kick them from the stage and get arrested. xD

In the 70’s DJs always announced requests like “this one is for ______”. There was also dedications. “This is from ______ for _______.” Cheesy, yes, but there was a connection between people then that we are lacking now.

Almost all of my stuff is High School dances, and I *LOVE* song requests. Firstly they mostly ask for stuff I already have so they get a thrill when I play their song, secondly, I save all those requests (easily over a hundred over the dance) and make playlists out of them to see what will work for the next one.

You build a base with playing requests. The bad ones and good ones get played at times. But most of the time, I tell them to pick something a little more crowd fitting that they like... EX: "hey! I like your choice, but, do you have something you like that would really get the crowd jumping?" Usually works every time.

HA. "play Marvin Gay, lets get it on" after I just got done playing "ground shake" by crankdat & bandlez. Wouldn't stop requesting it, even through my multiple reroutes. So. Spotlight time. "This gentlemen, in the white shirt/baseball cap insisted I play this song for you all" Low and behold, they were loving it. I'm not always right about mood feels. Sometimes the people in the crowd do have taste and feel. I cut the song short about 3 minutes as well xD
