Thanks for the helpful video, for all of the people with rekordbox 5 that have to relocate 1 by 1 song, I found the way to do all one at the same time. You go to top left corner to "files" and select "show all of the missing files". It will appear all of the list of songs that are missing. Then when you select all of those songs, you click to relocate, and select one song for example, then it will ask you "do you want to use this location to find the other songs?", you click yes, and it will relocate all of your songs automatically. It's like in rekordbox 6 but a bit hidden haha

Just got to this video after having to import my whole library (over 3k tracks) to my new mac. I've tried to import tracks in the past following the Dropbox process when I changed from another pc to my latest before the mac and it was a complete pain, aside from not even importing the whole tracklist properly. Hi Great Video. Can an you advise on this. I have a 2nd rekordbox computer that already has an exact copy of my music files from my primary laptop. Both have the same identical folder structure (H:\Music) so I only backed up the database without music files. When i imported the database to the 2nd computer I expected the files to be readily available without the need to relocate since they are already in the same drive location and folder structure as my primary computer which is (H:\ Music) Yet, after the import rekordbox on the 2nd computer is showing the file location as (C::\Music) I do not want to use relocate if I don’t have to as this could take a full day. Is my expectation wrong, and I must use relocated regardless , even if the file structures of the two computers are exactly the same? Thank in advance for any insight on this

Hey. The thought process is absolutely right. But your expectation can not be met coz the address (H:\Music) is different from the other computer coz it also takes the computer address as a part of the location. So even if the folder location is same in different computers the file location will not be. Coz both computers are names differently when installing OS. Hence relocating is the only option.

In the past I've backed up library incl.music files and it restored exactly the same, with all the playlists and everything. However if you backup without music files you can not relocate multiple files - not even 1 playlist at the time...you have to do it 1 by 1...the autorelocate function in RB6 may be handy..

Hi there, I'm a little confused by a few things. I have backed up my library from my old laptop onto an external harddrive, and have then restored the library in rekordbox on my new laptop. I am now unsure how to get all of my playlists into my new rekordbox, how do I backup my old computer's library without the songs? And secondly, when I try to relocate the missing files, it isn't working. Even when I specifically put the correct location into the database search in preferences (ie. in my 'Music' finder). Can you help?

What a great tutorial! Two remaining questions: 1) If I understand correctly, it should be enough to just back with 'without music' and after that relocate the files ones you've added your own structured folders and files right? Or is the 'with music' transfer necassary to fool the system first? Aren't the music files on your computer twice if you do that? 2) what about the licence? I read somewhere that it will work on two computers, but you also disable it afterwards on the old one?

For that reason i copyed Rekordbox with my Music on a Synced Synology Server Folder, so i can reach it anytime + offline. Everytime a track is imported into Rekordbox, A analysis file is created. Which holds the track information, Like a track ID, Track location on the computer, BPM, it draws a waveform, creates grids and also adds cue points if you create them n a few more.. all this information is a part of Rekordbox analysis. So when you backup without music. All you backup is this analysis file so you don't loose your cue points and grid information etc. And when you backup with music, The analysis file is backed up along with the music and a new folder structure is created in the form of album,artist,year, track etc. And some people are not a fan of that itunes style folder structure. That's y when you take a backup without music. You can simply relocate your collection. The music remains where you like. And the folder structure also remains the way you like. And once relocated all your grid information and cue points can also be added to your existing tracks. I hope you are able to understand 😇👍 Thank You for watching 😇

Can you help Deep - My Music Collection is on a 2TB Lacie Drive and I was on a 2017 iMac with RB version 5 - I now have a 2019 iMac and downloaded latest version of RB 6 ready for transfer - followed your instructions, dont want to move the music obviously as Im going to use the same External Drive on the new machine. I made back up which gave me a Zipped file which on restore on the new machine says "can't restore" so unzipped the file to a folder with a large number of items in - which one do I use to restore on the new machine version 6 - by the way I tried "import your library from version 5 or earlier" it asks for RB to be restarted then just opens with no further activity - can you help please ?

I have a ?, I did the migration assistant and it copied everything from rekordbox to my new laptop but the Dropbox made a second folder called Dropbox (old) and then re made a new one called just “Dropbox” everything looks fine in the new folder on my new computer, but my upload to cloud feature is disabled as the new version of rekordbox is logged out of Dropbox on my new laptop. It asks to activate this device and then it said it will “merge” everything I just wanted to make sure I keep all my playlists. Everything works great right now but it seems the cloud stuff is off, some tracks are in the cloud some arnt but they’re on my laptop in the Dropbox folder and some are in my other previous folders before I signed up for the cloud. Just wanna make sure it doesn’t wipe my playlists. Thanks deep!

EVERYTHING worked it seemed, but on the last step, when I go to load a track it says “file missing”. So I highlighted everything, as u did, and tried to relocate the group/entire library but unfortunately it won’t pull up that option. I Can only do it with single tracks. If I try to auto - relocate everything, it pulls up that tab with “load, analyze track, analyze lock, add to playlist etc etc etc” HELP PLLLEAASE. Have a gig coming up and I’m stressing :(

@@coccopuffs1020 This method only works if every single track in your youve selected to relocate livse in the same locaion. Try sorting by location, then selecting all missing tracks from thtat one location, and then you will see the option to relocate everyting at in that locaion at once. Then onto the next group of files in the same location and so on.

What if you made a backup without music, with a separate manual music backup, and its now too late to make a backup with music? I had to reinstall my OS and this time Rekordbox finds and plays all my files just fine after restoring, but now when I try to import new files Rekordbox duplicate the rest of my library and I don't know what to do. I have done this same procedure before without the duplicate import.

This is extremely different bro. As the addresses on both the systems will never be the same. Database will have to be relocated every single time. The easy solution is using Rekordbox 6 subscription and you can access the library on all computers.

In Rekordbox 6 you can opt for their creative plan in which all your music can be stored on Dropbox and can be accessed on multiple computers at once.
