58 y.o. this year and I've FINALLY realized/learned the line is "NO wise man has the power." Been singing that line wrong for DECADES. And of course "NO wise man has the power" makes so much more sense than "THE wise man has the power" because it speaks to the helplessness of perception - especially in matters of the heart. Great song. And the Doobies Bros. version...excellent. Poor Kenny Loggins - great voice but his version subdues the keys in favor of guitars when (in retrospect) it's the keys (along with McDonald's unique voice) that put this song over the top.
