THIS IS AMAZING! UNBELIEVEABLE! There is no other drummer like Mamady, alive! This kind of playing comes from somewhere else, and its not in this plane of existence!

Superb and clean. Each slap sounds like a slap, his accents on the sounds are so precise...he truly makes the djembe talk. Bravo. May you live long!

You can't say Mamady's playing lacks character unless you don't have the eyes to see, the heart to feel, or the ears to hear. When I hear him play, I can feel the influence of the tradition coming through his hands. Labeling a great djembefola is subjunctive, but MOST agree Mamady is among the BEST, if not THE best. Age only improves his play! In addition, the people have labeled him MASTER, not he himself. Few people can call themselves MASTERS as well as good musicians.

I have personally witnessed every master in Conakry coming to his home to pay homage to the Master out of respect and gratitude. This culture demands respect and giving props where they are due. Now who needs to expand their vocabulary? By the way, I am a woman!!

I either balance my djembe in front of me, between the legs without crossing my legs on it--too much tension, makes one off-balance-- or I hang it from my waist using a padded shoulder strap from a carry-on suitcase--the kind with clasps on the ends. Important to balance it, just right!!!

Yes Mamady has a belt. But if you cross your legs behind the djembe, it's less tiring ;-)

how's he balancing his djembe? is there some kind of belt or something that he's using? I hate holding up big djembes with just my legs, it's so tiring after awhile.
@MrSmikouze11 жыл бұрын
Any type of belt is ok. Just pass it through the djembe strings.

Fun. Could use more character, but fun.

thanks for the reply! do you know if that belt's for sale somewhere? do you mean cross your legs around the base of the djembe? haha i do that normally, but 16" or 18" djembes are so top heavy they just don't balance well. and if i rest it on my calves when my legs are crossed, like cradling, there's not a lot of stability. and stability is of utmost importance, especially when playing hard and fast. when i get lost in the moment like mamady does here, i can't worry about the djembe slipping!
