His presumption was that what you were doing was illegal, which gave him a sense of entitlement to confront you as if that was the truth. That drone is under 249g so you can fly it anywhere you want in the UK including over private residential properties as long as it’s not restricted airspace! You only need an operator ID, you do not need a flyer ID or take a theory test.

It’s pronounced Beaver Castle. I shot a wedding there once and the old guy who was managing it was horrible to me. When it was the wedding breakfast, the couple had paid for a meal for me. When I asked to have it in a quiet area so I could stay near for when the speeches were about to start, and so I could plug my laptop in and make a preview gallery, the old man shouted at me “YOU WILL HAVE YOUR DINNER IN THE BASEMENT WITH THE REST OF THR STAFF!!!” and proceeded to treat me like I was a scrounging bottom-feeder. So I went to the bar which was next to him and ordered a pint of Pepsi. I walked back to him and said “I’m a customer now” and sat my stuff down by the piano, before telling him he could stick his vendor meal and I went out in the car and got a hot baguette and trimmings from a local pub. I took it back with me and sat where I wanted and ate it while I worked. This was in May 2013.

Yep the silly people who work for these "Royals" or land owners etc are WORSE - FAR WORSE than the people they work for! I went to that castle some years ago foe an adventure off road day and included was a tour of the castle - I actually met THE man of the house in the garden and HE was very nice! saying that he probably realised I was a PAYING customer
