I'd say the higher bitrate preserves more details giving more noise or artifacts, but that makes sense. That probably has nothing to do with the noise reduction happening in the camera. Now we have more options for good quality image, good job DJI 👍

Good test. I have found similar results with my GoPro 13 and its ability to shoot with high and low bitrates. With high bit rates I get more detail and saturation, but also more luminance noise that is similar to your footage. Also, the KZbin quality setting that I watch your video on, makes a difference. When I watch it on the 4k setting there is more detail and luminance noise visible. But when I watch it at 720p, everything gets softer, more Noise Reduction is applied by KZbin and banding appears on solid color surfaces, like the walls in your room. You can't control the quality setting that the audience watches your videos on, and this will destroy your high bitrate footage. My understanding is that if you get a Premium KZbin subscription, KZbin will provide you with a high bitrate stream which is supposed to look much better. However, this high bitrate stream is dependant on having high speed internet and probably watching it on the highest quality setting. I was watching your video in a coffee shop and occasionally the video would stutter and stop because there wasn't enough bandwidth available. At the end of the day, most KZbinrs would probably benefit from using standard bitrate and focus more on story and character. You seem gifted in this area so your channel should flourish.

I agree. Standard bitrate will be more than good enough for most people, but for camera geeks like me the higher bitrate makes a difference.

You noticed something really valuable in this. The new firmware gave much better skin tones. Subtle, but they went warmer and less plastic looking. I’ve noticed this in my own testing. They also improved the overall night footage.

When we turn Noise Reduction to -2 and Sharpness (Texture) to -2, doesn't that basically reduce the use of the 5nm image co-processor? Maybe HDR is still being processed in that chip. But many are asking for that to be an option that can be toggled on/off. So my question is; has DJI not figured out how to utilize the AI image co-processor yet? Can we expect better image results in the future?

The high bit rate, isnt going to do much in static slow shots, irs the faster moving action, to help reduce compression artifacts.

I find the high bitrate looks more crisp while standard looks a bit more smeared. The most likely reason for that is the grain. Contrast also seems better and this probably impacts saturation.
@JaredDoyle7610 күн бұрын
Hi Roma - I'm suspecting DJI will continue refining the compression algorithm to reduce the artifacts, as well as improve the thermal load in high bitrate. The 5nm SOC in the Action 5 has a lot of untapped potential for optimization. BTW I just bought your LUTs for the Osmo Action 3/4/5. I'll be taking a trip most likely to Kanchanaburi in a month and look forward to using them after the trip.

I used Dehancer to color grade the intro clips. My paid LUTs deliver better results than the free one if you’re interested. The rest of the video wasn’t color graded by the way. I just adjusted the contrast and saturation.

Finally, someone made a sensible comparison between High and Normal mode! After all, publishing a recording with 60Mbps and 100Mbps bitrates, and then reduced twice, on an 8Mbps channel (youtube) doesn't give you a chance to see any differences. The only solution is to use static images, very (very!) greatly enlarged. The aforementioned lips not only regained color, but also details. Unfortunately, however, we mainly gain... noise.

What i noticed about the sharpness which in action 5 is callled texture btw is that -2, -1 and 0 ,change nothing to the image .Then going to +1 texture, it sharpens dramatically from the previous 0 setting ....i didn't try +2 since +1 was terrible :P
@Romafedorov9 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience. Personally, I would never increase the texture (thank you) as it looks too fake..
@haaake10 күн бұрын
It actually ends up looking even more over sharpened to me. I feel like they need to allow you to dial down the sharpening even more. I think we are getting to the point where these cameras are putting to much resources into software tricks rather than actually improving the sensors and lenses any further.
@Romafedorov9 күн бұрын
I think you’re mistaking detail for sharpness. The higher-bitrate clips look slightly more detailed but not digitally oversharpened.

Why is the image on the left wide and the image on the right where the high bitrate is narrow?

I filmed with the exact same settings other than bitrate, so the field of view should be the same. However, I filmed the clips at slightly different locations because I only have one camera, so that’s why it might look different.

I believe that the DJI Osmo Action Pro 5 and the Insta360 Ace Pro 2, despite their similarities, do not meet the standard I expect from action cameras. DJI has the capability to incorporate a one-inch sensor, which would deliver exceptional quality, similar to what I experience with my DJI Pocket 3. As an owner of the Pocket 3, I can confidently say that I will not purchase any action camera that lacks a one-inch sensor and robust low-light performance.
@Romafedorov10 күн бұрын
Putting a 1” sensor is going to increase the MFD, which is already a huge issue with current 1/1.3” sensors. I honestly think 1/1.3” sensors are the sweet spot, or maybe one day one of these companies is going to put AF in these cameras like on the pocket 3.
@BraxChat10 күн бұрын
@@Romafedorov is it not possible for them to put a 1 inch sensor in here and have the option to turn auto focus on and off. Like the off mode could be the action mode. The on mode could be the vlog mode.

Dear Roma, I wanted to bring your attention to the Sony RX0 ii, a compact camera equipped with a one-inch sensor. This demonstrates that it is indeed possible to integrate a one-inch sensor into an action camera. However, it seems manufacturers may choose not to implement this feature right now, likely reserving it as a marketing opportunity for future models, positioning it as a novel advancement in action cameras. It's worth noting that Sony was the pioneer in this technology, setting the standard that others are now following. Best regards, Barbarystudio
