I have all 4 of the DJI cameras and my favorite is the A4. It has a better normal color profile for daytime use and I never need to color grade in post. I'm hoping that there will be a firmware update for the A5 to at least match the normal color profile of the A4. I was using D-log M with the A5 and then using the DJI lut in post and then it looked great but it's a step I would rather not have to deal with. The reliability of the DJI cameras is excellent. I was very happy with the A3 camera but the ability to connect the Mic 2 and the GPS remote to the A4 was more than enough for me to upgrade.

I agree on your final take with the DJI action camera. Not only is it super reliable, but the interface of the camera matches that of the Pocket 3 and Mini 4 Pro drone, all of which I have. No need to reset my brain when I move between devices. My one-off device is the insta360 Go 3S, because I love that tiny camera 🙂

I'm loving the DJI Action 5 Pro. What always stopped me from getting an action cam for the bike was battery life. I couldn't be bothered with switching batteries half way through a ride, that's just too much faff. I can get a solid 4 hours @1080p which will cover me for any ride I'm likely to do. The image quality and stabilisation are excellent and the low light performance better than expected.

Losing confidence in a product is the kiss of death for it. An old car may run great, but if you've lost confidence in it's ability to get you where you want to go ... it's all over. Sounds like you've lost confidence in GoPro, and it's easy to see why. Leonardo is a fan of limericks! That makes two of us! Of all the limericks I know, I know only two clean ones. "Hickory, Dickory, Dock" is one of them. Thanks for the camera insights! I keep learning from you, and I'm grateful for your knowledge. Ride on!

Very interesting and useful, Leonard. I want to upgrade my GoPro Hero 7 Black and those are exactly the 2 cameras I have been considering. Another video recently was looking at GoPro the company and the trouble they have been having, and how maybe that has affected the quality and innovation of their products. Also, more limericks please...

Great review, I used to be a huge Go pro fan, but just like you the reliability of these cameras has severely let me down, with overheating, go pro 8 dying out with no physical damage, in cold temps Go pros are absolutely useless, I have DJI action 4 so far it's been brilliant with no problems, Osmo action 5 destroys the Go pro 13 in low light capabilities and underwater.

Thanks Leonard I too have issues with GoPro cameras. Lots of freezing up due to overheating just when you want to capture a shot. The App to edit is wonky to say the least. I was wondering if you had any thoughts on the Insta line of cameras
@jollygoodvelo16 сағат бұрын
I’ve been using the Insta360 cameras quite a lot as well. Their new X4 has pretty good image quality for a 360 camera but I was very disappointed with the Ace Pro. I’ve not tried the Ace Pro 2, though. I have videos about the X4 if you need more info.

The OA5 after the last firmware is pretty darn good 👍 even on standard bitrate it looks excellent and i get 9 hours of recording time with a 256gb card at 4k30 vs 5 hours at high bit rate and the files are easier to scrub and edit.

I love my GoPro (12) but my action 5 pro is my new favorite. The GoPro is great in bright sunlight (luckily I live in Los Angeles) but the DJI is just awesome in terms of reliability, user interface, low light, and audio. May I ask, did you grade the earlier footage as well as the later footage on both cameras?
@jollygoodvelo16 сағат бұрын
All the footage was ungraded but I used different in-camera profiles.

So, my question is, did gopro and especially dji oversharpen the image quality from previous models? for me there is something strange about video detail and sharpness, looks like upscaled 1080p with lack of fine detail, and digitally sharpened. There is no problem when viewed on small fullhd screens, tablets or smartphones displays but if you watch on 32" 4K monitor or large tv's this is an issue that made me return the action 4. any thoughts about that? thank you!
@jollygoodvelo5 сағат бұрын
@@danbilotto7785Have you changed the sharpness setting? By default it is set to high but you can reduce it to minimum. I edit my footage on a Mac with a large screen and it looks fine.

In my opinion comparing the previous year with the current year is sort of pointless unless the current year is just so dramatically different, which it rarely is. It's better to compare current year with maybe three or four versions prior.
