Mavic 3 was noticeably sharper throughout the depth of field, and highlights of the lit signs on the buildings were crisp instead of bloomed. Sure some of that could be refined in post since you mentioned these clips were untouched. Thanks for the great side by sides. Now for them to expedite the Mavic 4 with stacked BSI micro 4/3 on both 24mm and 70mm 🤣.

The variable aperture on the Mavic 3 was a dead giveway as the lens isn't super sharp wide open (from corner to corner). Im guessing on auto mode the aperture was set to f2.8, whereas fixed aperture lenses typically seem sharper from corner to corner wide open. That being said the air 3 really punches above it's weight and blew me away. Nice work, Ken!

This is what i kept saying in other reviewers talking about how it is a smaller sensor than previous air and same sensor with Mini 3 that it is redundant to get this. Yes it has a smaller sensor and its even smaller than air 2s and same as Mini 3 sensor size wise. but the technology behind the stacked sensor beats both of them out of the water. This is the closest you will get to Mavic 3 with lesser cost

Ok so I had them backwards. It does make sense now that I think about it. The Air 3 though looks amazing. I am sure if you color grade, and shoot to the strengths of the Air 3 it will rival pretty much anything for almost anything.

Dynamic range and noise is better in the Mavic. But, it’s so subtle that it wouldn’t make much of a difference for me. I recently bought the Air 3 and have been very happy with it so far!

Hi. My friend now change drone from mavic 2 pro to air 2s instead of air 3 because like he said. Air 2s have better picture quality over air 3 , especially dlog video. I dont agree but i cannot find step by step dlog comparison between these two bastards. With files to download I am now proud owner of air 2. And i may change this year the drone and what should be my pick up? Size or mavic 3 its too big. Somebody have comparison with files to download?

On a whole nothing much between the two drones. The blues on the air 3 i think have more pop like the footage you showed with the top of that building would you think?. night mode on air 3 looks great more than enough for anyone. A well built drone packed with new technology like the new chip set etc . Great work Ken as usually i hope your enjoying flying this new drone .

Can you post the camera settings that were used to produce these tests? It looks like you are testing a f/1.7 lens of the Air 3 against a f/2.8 lens of the Mavic 3 - this is a 1-1/2 stops of light difference that will give your Air 3 footage a nice boost in low light performance regardless of night mode or a new stacked sensor technology.

Here's a question... Do you think this is the last and greatest version of the Mavic 3 before the Mavic 4 series. If so, it makes sense to buy this one to use with your RC Pro. As I assume a Mavic 4 would use 04 transmission and render my RC Pro useless. Thoughts?

yep i am a sensor slut for sure. the grain of the air 3 was more prevalent and frankly the smoothness of the Mavic 3 is just so much more pleasant when looking at moving objects. the air 3 seems to have a tint to it while the mavic 3 seems to get colors just a little better

Also I think the whole point for the "Air series" was quality, but lightweight drone in the past... and being 720g this drone is getting closer to the Mavic 3 classic 895g weight... which has a Hasselblad 4/3 camera (nothing beats that quality)... Also this drone doesn't work with the RC Pro controller, honestly I think the Mavic 3 classic is a better buy at this point... and for social media content, you can always frame your shots in the middle (technically what the air 3 does) to crop out footage from 5.1k d-log. Thoughts? Do you agree or disagree?

Air 3 is F1.4 and Mavic 3's Hasselblad is F2.8 at it's smallest, the Air 3 is simply better at letting more light in which makes it generally better at night-time videography, I preferred the Air 3 in the blind test and I can see why lol

I think difference is very noticeable in the color of the sky. Mavic 3 has more natural feel of blacks. Air 3 has some kind of purple tint of black. Still, for most users this is not a dealbreaker.

24mm will not be the same from 4/3 to 1 1/3 same as if you stuck a 24mm on a APS vs a full frame. Sensor size will effect the output

For the life of me I cannot find anywhere what the dual native ISO is for the Air 3, not on DJI's website, not in their manual, can't find on forums? Ive also tested a mix of auto and pro mode keep the shutter locked and leaving iso on auto and not much noise on both normal and night mode which is impressive. I think I need to run another test but id like to know what the dual native ISO is for Air 3. On cameras it normal has the 2 lines above and below but its no DJIs interface.

It's used for HDR photo and video processing. You essentially get the same sensor image (whether for photo or video) processed at two different exposures at the same time. A low and high gain or ISO. It also results in a less noisy image. Cheers!

STacked are EXPENSIVE. The cheapest stacked Full Frame is the Nikon Z8 that just launched as the only mid range with a stacked sensor at $4000. It's about time they gave us new sensor technology though. Now just give us a 4/3 Stacked using a Zoom lens so we only need 1 camera on the good sensor. What I'm trying to figure out is why in Greg's video, that stacked still showed the same noise as the Mini 3 Pro in a couple of his tests. Stacked is supposed to produce less noise. So, seems DJI has some tuning to do on that sensor yet.

You think the air 3 gimbal is a little more steady than the mavic 3? Like long exposure wise would it be sharper..? My mavic 3 has trouble with anything over 2 sec for fine details in little to no wind. Who knows maybe mine has its own characteristics, like flying head on into a horizontal branch with obstacle avoidance on. 🙃

Love a good side-by-side (and bumping sound track for that matter!) the pixel-peeping community appreciates ya Ken! 👏👏 For being non-hasselblad glass, really surprising to see minimal spherical aberrations. Lot of my DLSR lenses at 1.4-f2 fall victim wide open, and some of those (just) lenses are far more expensive than A3 kit. Like you said, it’s got a glow that cheapens the look a bit, but not seeing a lot of halos on smaller, pointed light sources. this ship will def be nice upgrade for a lot of folks

@OriginaldoBo - can you please help me out. I wanted to know how the pictures and videos differe between the DJI Mavic 3 Pro and Air 3. I usually take pictures in the early mornings, day about 50% of the time and the rest when there is sunset. I take pictures of the golf courses and also of the Cities I visit. I don't know which to choose between the 2. I had an Autel Evo 2 Enterprise and that took great pictures and videos but I switched to DJI because of their Enterprise Mavic 3. Now I need a drone to do Video and Pictures that I will give to the Course and Clients.
