How does side to side tracking work if the gimbal is only one axis. Is the drone turning in head tracking mode? Also can head track mode only be used with the motion controller
@CAPTAINDRONE798

There is no side to side tracking. If you use the motion controller and fly straight forward and then turn on head tracking mode and look side to side as you move forward, the drone just YAWs side to side.

@@PietervanGinneken I'm in a CE country, and I generally get around 250m when flying close to the floor before losing video signal. The furthest I've got is 350m stood at the base of a steep hill with the Avata going up the hill. This Is just my personal experience of my 4 or so flights in different areas in the countryside away from civilisation and domestic wifi and mobile phone interference. I won't lie its the biggest disappointing thing for me about the Avatar. I would expect at least the 500m line of sight legal limit when dji quote 2000 metres

2 questions , I’m new to FPV. I have an original Phantom 4 obsidian , looking to go smaller with either a Mini 3 Pro or This Avata. 1) do you think it is worth the PRICE ? Is the Mini 3 Pro a better buy ? 2) with the goggles, does it give you an aiming point so you fly through things, around trees etc. or is it just experience that gives you precision steering? Those posts in front of you, can this unit fly UNDER it or is it too tight ? Thanks. Great fun
@CAPTAINDRONE798
@CAPTAINDRONE798 2 жыл бұрын
Mini 3 pro a better buy, I would say the Avata is overpriced because it is aimed at beginners and none of the parts work with any of the thousands of drones already in the FPV hobby, so plenty to pay. When you see the AVATA looking cool in vids it is normally because a very experienced FPV drone pilot is flying it (I.e., me and a few others on KZbin). As a newbie you’d only be able to fly it like a Mini drone and your limited as to where you fly and range because it is illegal in most countries to fly without a spotter. However, if you really wanna fly this type of FPV then you’ll love it and your skills will grow over the years. Yes you could fly it under and through anything it will fit through, but you have to be flying in manual mode for that.

If regular DJI camera drones can stay horizon level in Normal/Sports mode, why can't Avata?
@stumpjumper_ste
@stumpjumper_ste 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean, the drone stays level or the picture/video? If you mean the video, its a single axis gimble instead of 3 axis. Meaning the camera only goes up and down, not in any other direction. So when the drone rolls, the picture does too. That's the effect people want who fly fpv. The Avatar does have a horizon mode that I believe levels it out by magic.
@CAPTAINDRONE798

@@tiggi5602 Maybe when motion controller was introduced with Dji fpv it was too early and not so suitable for a very fast fpv drone.So,yes the stock maybe was more than the demand and now it is the right time to sell it with avata.
@CAPTAINDRONE798
@CAPTAINDRONE798 2 жыл бұрын
Two answers to that question: Using a joystick or joysticks are confusing to newbies so just twisting your wrist and pulling a trigger is simpler, so since DJI aims all their drones at beginners (I.e., buy it and fly it the same day) the motion controller was the answer. 2nd answer is that the motion controller is a bit gimmicky and owners of the DJI FPV hardly used it and tossed it away so not many sold. They had massive stock so this was the way to get rid of the stock.

@stumpjumper_ste 2 жыл бұрын
Head tracking just controls the camera direction. The controller still controls the direction of travel. If you look 1 way, and point the controller to the side, the drone will move sideways, whilst keeping the object in view. Its how you circle an object. Rotor Riot have a video showing it better.
@CAPTAINDRONE798
@CAPTAINDRONE798 2 жыл бұрын
Phil. Head tracking is simply designed to only work with the drone camera movement UP/DOWN and the drone YAW LEFT/RIGHT. It has nothing to do with flight forward/backwards/sideways/ascend/descend. However if you pull the trigger and turn your head LEFT/RIGHT then obviously the drone will rotate as you move in a desired forward direction. But, pulling the trigger and looking UP/DOWN just moves the camera as you move forward. Hopefully I explained that without causing more confusion.

@stumpjumper_ste

The head tracking controls the camera direction, but you still use the trigger to steer. Basically you can look at an object, put the navigation circle to far left or right of the screen , and Basically the drone will move sideways. This is how you circle an object with the goggles and trigger controller. Rotor Riot have a video that shows this.
@CAPTAINDRONE798
@CAPTAINDRONE798 2 жыл бұрын
In our goofy tests of flying it with the motion controller there was a bit of conflict if we turned our head LEFT/RIGHT while also tilting our wrist LEFT/RIGHT. The circle was no longer center of screen and was affected by us turning our heads which meant we could somewhat control the circle with our heads while pressing the trigger to move forward.

@@Simulacra001 I just reread my response and I think I rambled in. What I meant was the head tracking let’s you look Up/Down and Side to Side while flying forward. The head tracking does not cause the drone to fly in a different direction.

The head tracking is pretty neat. No way of completing a 360 I guess without moving. I’m going to build my first head tracking fixed wing….still getting parts. Great vid, cheers.

DJI makes no mention of it with the V2 goggles, only with the Goggles 2.
