I have used the DJI Focus Pro on an indie feature film and a bunch of commercials and music videos. When it works it is absolutely great and really enables you to do shots much easier and faster than before. But there are still a lot of limitations you have to know before buying. For me the most important things are: NOT ALL LENSES WORK Even cinema lenses with hard stops and manual calibration do not always work as expected. I couldn`t get my Sigma High Speed Cinema Primes to work reliably, as focus would always be wrong on distances below 1m. HAZE As soon as you use even the tiniest bit of haze you are back to pulling focus manually. USB-C CABLES I have destroyed 2 USB Cables on the 25 shooting days of the feature film. So keep that in mind and always have spare ones from DJI (because a lot of other cables are too thick). Other than that I have had a great experience so far - especially with the Blazar Remus 1.5 anamorphics.

My DTAP to USB C Cable fried the motor and the cable. Good advice to not use that. The same time I am happy to have a rigged system for the usb c cables to hold them in place (at least on the grip side, it is bonkers, that you can not use 90" of the better usb c cables out there. I bought usb-c U conectors for the motors .. that way the usb ports of the motors are save.

@@VasariFilms100 % I use it when I pull focus all by myself manually for handheld shots. I had the nano 2 before. The focus pro is ways better and more simple.

@ I am talking about the LiDAR holder only. Would not buy anything from them other than that. Also articulation arms etc I would not get from small rig either. Tilta has great ones for budget

That's great, but how to calibrate AF on Zoom lens like 24-70mm lens?

The DJI Focus Pro is amazing and a god-send. I was losing vision in my dominant eye making critical focus hard to achieve. With the Pre Registered lenses that I use like the Blazar Remus and DZO Vespids set up was a breeze. We do need an arri locating pin based mount. I am buying a second lidar pro for my b-cam.

Please, release a better cable solution. At least in several lengths - like 0,5-075-1m, and L-shaped on the motor/lidar side. Of course, cables should be braided ones, the ones that DJI makes now are too flimsy. Also an optional arri rosette mount with quick adjust knob would be preferred for the Focus Pro Grip. Thanks

Will be amazing if the autofocus calibration will keep the manual calibration of the lens in order to use photographic lens who don't have stops on focus ring

You can set stops manually .. and you can built yourself some hard stops easily.

@@d_FLDE yeah but when you calibrate the lens in order to reactivate the autofocus the system will ignore your manual stops, I have 3d printed focus ring, the hard stops with zipties doesn't works so well with those

@@TheCorradotube I guess as the lens can overrotate as soon as the lens calibrates it is getting lost. I have hard printed stops too for the 2 Lenses I use without hard stops. Works a1 for me as long as I have the lens on a support so that the motor is not pushing the rods to the side :) But I get you. I have a nucleus nano ii also, when I put it aside it just goes back to the last status. But that is not precise ... so it I guess for a lidar system to recalibrate the motor/lens each time is key.

DJI is a frustrating company; they have great ideas, but so many times, the execution is lacking, and also, the setup of their products doesn't make any sense. The way you power the handle is not great, this should be designed to run off v-mounts. The ranger finder should be designed to attach the camera with something other than a cold shoe; the cables are too short for versatility in mounting.

I have problems with the batteries and cables of this product. The short lifespan and incompatibility with the Ronin batteries has been a nuisance. They should provide longer and more robust cables. Having to register the product through an app also seems to me to be a disadvantage (I already know that China wants to have my data), especially when it is a product to rent, it is not very practical.

not everybody wants that handles, pdmovie isnt perfect like dji focus pro but obviously dji can do a one solid piece better than pdmmovie damn i have the handle and the cables, why they dont do a mattebox with a focus puller lidar. the setup is so clunky! id rather control the focus tapping in the phone than that focus handle...
