There is a far older DJI solution: Use the DJI goggles racing edition and check the video of MAD's RC to get the full experience. He had done it 2 years ago and showed the latency and so on. The head tracking piece is part of the goggles and you can use the digital connection with dji air unit or the old anlog you have already Turn your head and the camera servo arm will move around ... or you can steer somehow. @AndyRC TheQuanum Headtracker is based on a DIY project and can be build very easily using an arduino nano and a IMU-Board. I have the original at home as well as the parts to build another 2 from scratch (except a case, but maybe you have access to a 3D printer?). DIY headtracker project works great and is cheap. I made one a few years back. Frankly I'm surprised dji dont include it in the hd fpv goggles for the price of them, a mems gyro is all that's needed and would cost next to nothing. Still I guess they could make that an upgrade later on and charge £100 or something silly lol.

I've always found mixing the camera gimble with rudder and elevator an option ( can be put on switch to turn of ) . I've enjoyed seeing the bixler ( made me buy another ) .

Hello my friend. I'm new in this, will be buying Mavic Air 2. So, in order to use the DJI Goggles I need to but the DJI Smart Controller right? so I connect the Goggles and the Smart Controller with HDMI Cable. Is it possible to control the Mavic Air 2 Camera movement and tilt (Head Tracking) with the movement of your head using the DJI Goggles? Thank you very much. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm learning about this technology.

i've always wanted to try this, i know it would be much harder on a quad but i think it would still be good. 0.5secs delay? i suppose a proper delay is less disorientating than going for a pure vr type delay. i could have used this on my last few vids, i was flying a ridge which i had to search for people before i could fly it safely, ended up only having slow searches, still spectacular but if i could have been 100% sure nobody was sitting having a sammich i could maybe have flown a bit better. also... one of those for riding alongs would be awesome, ''a fiver a go missus''

Its easy. Just as you assign a stick or switch as input you can assign a trainer channel as input (assuming you are running open tx)

Nope can't be done. The dji radio has no trainer input port for ppm signals.

There is alternatives to quanum. The trinity for fatsharks is more or less the same thing... Just not in a nice case... Also there is a open source alternative with arduino and a gyro pcb... Can't remember the name but I found it on rc groups and built one... (Unfortunaly my gyro was broken and in the end I bought a trinity before fixing that one but it looked really promising...)

@@rasmus80g That's the one I used as a model, just without the compass. For the next step I bought a bunch of tiny stepper motors to translate the angles from the giro 1:1 to rotation of the camera. That should give it the right feeling. I found it irritating when it did not match on the first version. Also the servo solution is very flimsy.

@@M0rdH0rst ok well depending on your transmitter you could use the input signal in a mixer before outputting it to a transmitting channel. That way you could match the angel of the tracker with the camera to a 1:1 scale of you like. (No problem in a taranis or any tx with open tx I guess) stepper motors probably works good but involves a lot more diy... I would suggest good servos and a mixer to keep it simple...

I have made several of these, the Quanam is actually a straight copy of a public domain project. www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?1677559-DIY-Headtracker-%28Easy-build-No-drift-OpenSource%29 It is easy to make. I have a Quanam too, but I fried it a few years ago. I have also made my own version using a Teensy 3.2 and a Teensy Prop shield for the Gyro/Accl/Mag sensor, I like it better than the Quanam or the PD version as it is easier to program and set up. This project is simple for anyone with a little soldering experience.

Fatshark had a head tracker too, but stopped selling it. I built my own with an Arduino and a breakout board with the giro. Works too but is a little clunky :)
