Owning many FPV quads now I was thinking of one of these just for the convenience factor of having an agile but fully flight stablized bird for things like checking out new flying areas, finding lost quads, etc. The only turnoff is having to own a 3rd set of DJI goggles and all the software hacks required to unlock all the nanny features.
@spikester2 жыл бұрын
LOL, with a magnet & some string you can literally grab your lost birds and punch them out, I seen videos of claw setups & magnets. Awesome.

You don’t need a third set of goggles, you can sell one because you can flip between air-unit and dji within the goggles without too much problems (takes like 2 mins) I do it all the time!

Great stuff mate. I used this as my entry point in full blown fpv. Now have 5" quads and cinewhoops galore. If you can get a deal on and get a gopro your golden as you have the goggles which can be used for with other fpv quads going forward... and dont forget the panic button!

Thanks for your review here Glen. It's funny how polarising the DJI FPV machine is. I watched your "first FPV flight" video and found myself being disappointed that you weren't all "oh wow, this is awesome" about it. Haha. Where the DJI FPV unit tends to shine is in that "cinematic cruising" bracket (with a GoPro attached, of course). Imagine mounting surfing etc. Compared to a standard FPV freestyle drone, it's a lot heavier and slower, but that lends itself to smoother flight characteristics in many ways, it also forces you to smooth-out your flying and plan your moves a little more - as you cannot just nail the throttle to save your butt like you can with a purpose-built freestyle quad. Thanks again for your review. New subscriber.

Thanks for the Sub Cliff! I just read your comment to Mark and obviously this one and I think you make some really good points! And yeah my first flight might have been perhaps because I didn't plan a good location and I was near a no fly zone and I couldn't really fly through obstacles. And it is funny you mention that, because this week I have been thinking "Maybe I don't have to punch this thing into sports mode and fly it at top speed through a gap" and yes I haven't actually thought about 'Cinematic Cruising' and I am going to give that a go as well as practicing Manual. I really appreciate your comments and feedback and I hope to see more from yourself in the comment sections in some of my future videos going forward. Thanks again :)

@@GlenCairnsVideoProductions I'm new to FPV myself (I have been flying a 5 inch for less than 5 months) but loving every minute of it. I've already covered one motorsport event with my quad and there are more events in my future. None of those events requires that I do flippy-flops and such, so if you're thinking of how to integrate FPV into your professional work (as I was), it's more than likely to be cinematic (or slow moving) to some degree. FPV is making its way into realestate for things such as house fly-throughs etc, so it's a handy skill to have in one's filming arsenal, I feel. You already have some wonderful stuff. Cruising can be breath-takingly beautiful. I also like crashing my 5 inch into trees whilst trying crazy stuff. Cheers!

I liked your video. I absolutely love this drone... I have so much fun flying it. But, I do disagree with you about the camera. The camera is not as bad as you made it sound. But it could be better. There is always room for improvement. Also yes the propellers get in the view and that is annoying. I just ordered a GoPro 11 and I'm hoping and expecting the footages to be significantly better.

Thanks for the review. I was so close to getting one last week but have heard from a lot of people about the bad video quality. The biggest issue for me is the battery life, I’m spoiled by 20-30 min flight times with a single battery.
@GlenCairnsVideoProductions2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, It's almost one of those situations where you don't want to commit to the 1st generational product and see what they come up with next. I still think it wasn't a flop of an entry point, however I think they have a lot to work on for their next product!
@clifffield12 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of people who really like it. And FPV's power requirements are vastly different to a standard camera drone, so flight times are significantly reduced - but I get your point. Funnily enough, I've seen some FPV pilots comment that they find flight times over 5 mins quite taxing, as the concentration levels are often quite a bit higher than your standard flying experience. The normal flight time for freestyle FPV is somewhere around 3-4 minutes, but there's a LOT that happens in that time. :) I think you should try FPV before deciding, you might really love. And you might not. Cheers.
@pixelsimage2 жыл бұрын
@@clifffield1 I'm anxious and looking forward to expanding to FPV. I am hoping soon there would be a niche FPV drone that caters to cinematography in a way that puts a priority on image quality and flight time and sacrifices speed. The engineering of these requires powerful motors but smaller props for speed and agility, this eats batteries. Hoping some day there is a middle ground with agility, performance, slower speeds, and a better camera.
@clifffield12 жыл бұрын
@@pixelsimage There are options such as iFlight's pre-built line of 7 inch propeller 'Chimera' quads that can get over ten mins of flight time and are wonderfully stable units. They're not cheap either, but they are really built for what you're describing there. Granted, you're not going to get flight times like a Mini or a Mavic etc, but you can cover a massive amount of range in ten minutes with a cruising speed of 50-70 MPH. And they'll hit the top speed stuff (90mph and over) if you want them to... So there's options, but all this stuff is really limited by battery capacity. Damn physics! Cheers.

How du you get into welding photography? And do you think the fpv mini will be as extortionate as the normal fpv
@GlenCairnsVideoProductions2 жыл бұрын
I think DJI will have to redesign the FPV to resolve the issues with the original FPV. And going by the rumours if it is an FPV MINI that will be exceptional! Especially if they keep it under 250g! As for weddings, get to know the industry, go to film school work on projects until you feel competent at giving weddings a go, then sell yourself as a second shooter to videographers to build yourself a portfolio and take it from there my friend 😊. Thanks for the review! One of my worries about buying this drone is how expensive it would be to actually crash it, which you probably will, since it's a drone made for flying through stuff. Have you had any crashes yet? If yes, how fixable is it?
@GlenCairnsVideoProductions2 жыл бұрын
Hi Aleks! Truth be told yes I have crashed it! I’ve only crashed it twice and it was in the same flight 😅😂. Luckily for me I wasn’t flying too fast or very high, however it did still take quite a drop onto concrete and luckily for me it was just the props that got it in a bad way. From my understanding the DJI Refresh package is very useful for this drone if you were to cause serious damage to your drone in terms of a free replacement, or you can buy different parts at a cheaper price (I would personally take the replacement since I don’t know where to start when it comes to repairing drones!). Another point id like to make is that when I got this drone I was petrified to fly it because I didn’t want to crash it, so I flew it in normal mode for a while with the motion sensors protecting me and then eventually when I felt more comfortable I would take it into sports mode and practice certain sequences. I hope this helps 🙂. Glen.

@@GlenCairnsVideoProductions by the way i saw you flying over the water. Be extremely careful with stuf like that since fpv drones can lose signal and just crash into water (talking about that from my experience too😆😅). I suggest just to be safe apply some sort of water-repellent which is specifically made for electronics, therefore, even if the accident happens the drones electronics will work just fine.
