Hello I still wonder if the compass calibration which we all do outside the field before flying the aircraft might affects or upsets a little the IMU unit. Not always but sometimes though🤔. Maybe is it preferable to do as a first step a compass calibration outside the field not always but from time to time depending also to our location and flying distance from point to point? And as a second step to calibrate the IMU at home and on a nice flat surface ? I wonder if that sequence works better for the aircraft performance. Or maybe the IMU and compass are independent procedures? Thank you🙏

I Calibrate my compass only when it tells me to do so, but thanks to your video, I’m going to do this before every flight. Also thanks for the tutorial on calibrating the IMU. One quick question... how often should this be done? Or is it only when the Drone starts to drift when hovering, that it needs to be calibrated? Thanks.

Question regarding compass calibration- the second move/ position - the picture shows the drone on its side (that's how you did it) but the instruction says point the nose down. No? I guess it's sideways because you and others do it sideways and everything is ok. What about the instructions? Am I reading them wrong?

I’m a bit OCD I got a list of preflight checks that I do, one of which is a compass calibration prior to take off. Besides the money we all pay for these things what does it hurt to play it safe, seeing that is one less thing that could be a users fault for a fly away 😉

i calibrate only when the app tells me to. Had to recalibrate the vision sensors though when I saw the drone through binoculars bucking upwards and stopping when travelling home. It incorrectly sensed an obstacle and stopped often while RTH to home. Couldn't see it on the video...only the drone stopping and starting as the gimbal kept things correctly oriented

I only calibrate my DJI compasses when instructed on start up or I get a compass error. Yes, some calibrate every time they fly or when they go and fly in different geographic locations. I've traveled 300 miles to the Eastern Sierras multiple times from the Ca coast where I live and do most of my flying. When starting up Phantoms or Mavics in a different geographic location, never have had to re-calibrate a compass. Drones are much smarter than me. If they need something, they'll let me know.... glass of water, potty break.... No use trying to fix something that "ain't broke". Does it hurt to re-calibrate? No, just personal preference.And yes; controller on, connect app then drone on. And when indoors when checking systems, I take props off.... just in case.

@SaneAsylum6 жыл бұрын
Actually if you look at the arrow it is unclear which way it rotates since the lines do not overlap. It might be hard to wrap your brain around but the arrow could show clockwise or counter-clockwise depending on how your brain interprets the arrow! cant prove this was the cause but when i first did this i hit the rth and watched it not follow the home point it went off into a diff direction, thankfully i was close saved it also i find it to hover more in my experience dji told me it could have been the cause, dont take the video down just add an annotation as its still good content xD

@@michaelhaze4507 I doubt the compass data over-rides the gps information for return to home. I would guess the map facing and drone orientation for mapping/feedback for control purposes are about all the compass does (especially since many things interfere with compass readings).

During nearly 5 years of drone flying, I always hear, "stay away from metal objects when calibrating". Well, how far away? How much metal? how far from a vehicle? What about steel reinforced concrete? What about overhead power lines or, worse, high tension lines? Definitive guidance would be helpful.
@MyDroneChronicles4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Those would be some good things to investigate.
@rickmartin23922 жыл бұрын
if you are 15 foot or better, no prob. Power lines add another 10 foot or more, High tension (high voltage) just don't calibrate under them.

shouldnt you calibrate with the center axis? If you spin your body with it the axis is your body and not the drone. IMU means Inertia Movement Unit. This calibrates drone for speed, etc..

Sorry, but you need to pay attention to the on-screen instructions. The drone needs to stay in the middle while rotating it. You rotate around the drone, the drone does not rotate around you.
