Small correction (in the US at least): The sub 250 gram does NOT grant you an exemption from needing a certificate. If you fly for anything other than recreational, you still need a certificate, regardless of the weight of the drone. All the small size does is exempt you from having to register the drone. If you fly recreationally only, you still don't need a flight certificate for any drone weighing under 55 pounds. All you have to do is register the drone. Registration for the aircraft is a totally different thing from pilot certification. Weight only applies to the registration requirement. Purpose of your flight determines certification needs. I know, it's confusing and the FAA really needs to step up and make these rules more clear.

the light weight is not just about exemption from rules and regulations. It's just safer for everyone in case something goes wrong. Worst case scenario if the drone crashes and hits someone, it won't be too damaging, especially on personal property such as cars etc.

I could really tell the improvement in dynamic range on the Mavic 3 in the night shots.
@Trevor-Bobyk2 жыл бұрын
Agreed, even though the mini 3 has a 1.7 Aperture the Mavic 3 still produces a cleaner image at night

@@Trevor-Bobyk mini 3 bigger sensor? No the Mavic 3 has a much larger sensor then the mini 3.

@@sean7193 you’re correct, I meant the aperture difference. Not sensor size 👍

@@Trevor-Bobyk ahh gotcha. The sensor is still responsible for the dynamic range - not the aperture size.

Bro telling me the Mini 3 Pro should have better low light performance because it has a lower aperture 😂 Great video bro, but that logic is so flawed.
@jonasgillmann Жыл бұрын
The aperture is not even comparable since the sensor size is different. APS-C f2.8 is full frame f4.0 for example!
@lukastemberger Жыл бұрын
@@jonasgillmann Sensor size doesn't necessarily matter either. There are smaller sensors that can pick up more light than larger sensors. And there are same size sensors that have very different low light capabilities. It's about the tech used and ISO sensitivity.

is the vertical cropped video on mavic 3 worse than the native mini 3 pro?!

Its clear the Mavic 3 is for professional use, in terms of design, battery life, variable shutter etc. But I was curious if the Mini 3 pro could hold up in the video quality department. Can you tell the difference between the two?

based on the price and camera quality, i would go with the mini 3 pro

If you fly the mini to get content for your social media do you need certificate for it?

@2:54 This seems to contradict the footage. The Mini 3 had tons of noise in these low light shots. The Mavic wasn't perfect, but it looked much more professional.

Correct, Mavic 3 wins in low light. I record the a-roll before shooting the test. Key word was "Should' be better. I was obviously wrong. Thanks for pointing this out. I should of left a note in the video.

Hey Trevor, great video just little remark! Aperture can only be compared 1:1 if the sensor size is the same which it is not! The sensor of the Mavic 3 is 1.73 time the size of the Mini 3 Pros sensor so you also have to multiply the aperture by 1.73 so the Mini 3 Pros equivalent aperture would be slower at over f2.9 than that of the Mavic 3. It’s the same with cameras APS-C f2.8 is full frame f4.2 for example because full frame sensors are 1,5 times the size of APS-C sensors! Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪😊

The sensor on the Mavic 3 is not similar to the GH5 (it's smaller); moreover, aperture is relative to sensor. A 1.7 aperture on the mini 3 is more comparable to a 2.8ish on the Mavic...about a stop more of light. End of the day, you have to first consider your distribution channel and audience. And since most content is consumed on social, with high compression - you really won't be able to tell the difference - not 2X the price. I like to think the Mini 3 is better for most social, especially when vertical is required. Not having to crop, like you do with the Mavic 3, gives a) the appearance of a sharper image and b) a better FOV - which will be far more noticeable to most viewers than a few stops of dynamic range in the shadows. Some clients, however - I would feel pretty silly showing up with the mini pro 3. So again, depends on the budget/client and distribution channel.

It is very obvious that Mavic 3 is far, far superior in low light situations, just compare the details in shadow areas.
