Nice vids. Just got my drone today, and I was planning for the Memorial Day to go out on the lake and use this mode to follow the boat. I wasn't sure if you know or tested the follow me for max speed (not sure what that is) not in sport mode.

I plan on doing some kayaking in the ocean and wanted to try follow me mode. The remote would have to go into a dry bag. Would follow me still work? My buddy said with his drone he is able to choose what he wants the drone to follow then sets the remote down. So it follows the selected object instead of the remote. If you could clear this up for me that would be awesome!

good video! I can see where this can come in handy in situations where you may get covered and active track would inevitably lose you. For example Forest quad riding, you may have a problem with active track loosing you in the trees, where follow me mode shouldn't matter as long as you have the controller.

Hi, I look for a possibility to create a footage of me while the drone focuses me but the controller is in a bag. I tested active tracking, starting it, blocking the controller sticks and lock the Smartphone Screen. After locking it it immediately stops active tracking. Reason is e.g. riding a snowboard. It is not possible to hold the controller and the Smartphone while riding it. Is there a possibility? It looks like your phone is active and unlooked all the time like in active tracking.

I own a Kenworth truck which I drive in the Australian outback. I haven’t tried my new Mavic on a trip yet, but I think Follow Me might be better than Active Track because it will always follow the RC. If I use Active Track and it gets out of range, it will return to Home Point, correct? Then I’ll have to stop and make it take off again and reset Home Point, although I could make Home Point the RC I guess. I realise Home Point on the RC is where you last set it. Anyway, I just found your channel and subscribed. Bear in mind I drive in areas where there is no traffic for hours, so I’ve got plenty of time and room to experiment.

I have a question (probably the first of many as I go through your Mavic Tutorials) Essentially, the Mavic is maintaining it's gps position a static distance and position from the Controller.. but where does the Controller get it's GPS? is that internal to the RC or does it get it from the phone?

Another solid training piece, Timothy. I love Active Track. But it falls short when anything blocks its view of the target. For example, I live on a street with a lot of shade. This street has hills and valleys, so there's no good way to set active track under those branches; have to fly above the trees. But when you do that, about 40% of the street is hidden by the trees. AT will follow me until a tree hides me, then the craft will wait for me to reappear, which of course cannot happen since at that point it's concentrating on a place it can never see me. Follow Me shines in that situation.

Sina H - Sometimes Active Track is better. E.g. You want to film someone running across a Park. With Follow Me, they would need to be holding the Controller. With Active Track you would just draw the box around them and off they go. Also, with Active Track, you can get the Drone to automatically orbit the subject. There are pros and cons to both methods
