DJI MIC 2 problem - iPhone users beware! Watch till the end for solution!

DJI Mic 2 has a problem - its their lightning adapter.
Read from DJI Mic forums in facebook that this is a somewhat common issue from DJI Mic 1, and it appears that it will short circuit on its own if you keep it in the case and hooked up to the receiver for too long, and cause it to fail to connect with your iphone.
In this video I share about how to contact DJI live chat to get help in getting a replacement for the faulty adapter, and a small little hack I find out to get it back working.

Remove the case or connect the transmitter to the iPhone via bluetooth and don't use the receiver.

👋 yeah also suspected it was the case but in this video I didn’t remove it. But after the video it is the same. It’s my lightning adapter that was faulty. Take note too this is on DJI mic 2 and not mic 1 which was a common issue due to the case. Yeah as an alternative it’s to just connect via Bluetooth but then the quality is definitely not as good as the receiver version.

The device is supposed to work with the receiver. You cannot accept that for this price you have such a poor quality. By the way, tha audio quality gets worst through Bluetooth connection

Thanks for the Informative video. I am facing auto disconnection with iphone and receiver. The mic will work properly for the first time after connecting. If you stop video recording and start re-recording, the mic will be disconnected. Even if the video recording is turned off and on for a while, the same problem occurs. The DJI mic is switching to the iPhone mic.

That’s probably the iOS issue though! I faced the same issue on certain situations, and found out that to best determine whether it’s connected is to use the RodeReporter app.

So far so good now, though tbh I only tried it twice so far. My main concern is whether keeping it attached all the time causes a short circuit which seem to be the likely issue, or the connectors could be easily damaged if you plug it in and out and over time the problem may repeat again.

can you tell me if this lightning connection conveys discrete stereo tracks to the iphone?

Hey, hopefully I interpret it correctly, but I don’t think they will deliver stereo files (one wav from each transmitter through the receiver). It will probably be one single track but different L and R inputs. You probably have to extract the wav files directly from the transmitters (by setting them to record locally)

Do you have a protection case on your iPhone? I noted that for some connectors the protection case is not allowing proper connection…

Actually mine doesn’t affect it, and yeah I did try it without the case several times and it is still the same result.

Will the USB-C adapter be able to connect to an iPhone if the iPhone is in a case. I'm having an issue trying to fit it.

That entirely depends on the case in this case (pun intended). Mine was a UAG case so it was actually fine.

Did you try without your phone case? At the end of the video it seems the case is putting pressure on the receiver and maybe causing the inconsistent connection.

And although not ideal, you could try a lightning to usb-c female connection and use the usb adaptor on the receiver.

Haven’t tried that. But dji did manage to get me the warranty replacement.

Yeah don’t think it’s the case issue, since after using the warranty replacement it works instantaneously

Have you tried without the phone case? From what I can see, there are high chances that it is from the cover. In time, the connectors in the phone get weaker and if you also have a phone case that offers a little resistance, the contact is not made well.

Yes I did. Thought so too but unfortunately it’s not the cover issue. It doesn’t happen to my usb c for iPhone 15 pro though (the video I had was an iPhone 14 pro hence the lightning adapter)

Hey I haven’t tried but from what I see, the pin connections look different (2 vs 4) so they probably won’t work.

I had that problem yesterday I was recording videos and only the first ones used the mic, the others are with the iPhone mic. What a mess, also am not happy with the mic 2 😢 I have 3 more weeks to test it then I’ll decide if I’ll return them or keep them

I returned the Mic 2 because I had intermittent artifacting in the sound on the iPhone. So far I haven't had any issues with the Pocket 3 creator combo Transmitter, but for sure had issues with the iPhone connectivity.

Yes with the pocket 3 it works flawlessly. Not sure if it’s intentionally designed that way or not. Hoping newer firmware will fix this problem.
