Hello Ken - I must say right away you are a savior! Ive been flying my DJI Mavic Pro for years with the DJI goggles and rarely ever use the phone as a monitor. I recently upgraded to the DJI Air 2S and was greatly disappointed that I was no longer able to use my DJI goggles with this aircraft and that DJI had NO intentions to modify software to accept the goggles. Then came YOU! I followed your advice and purchased the items you listed. I hooked them all up and now can use my DJI goggles with the Air2S. Life is good. Thank you for sharing this "hack" as it truly is wonderful.. Stay well and fly high.

That is slick! I've used a tablet with HDMI, like the Dragon Touch or Nvidia Shield, by connecting it to the goggles (that have an HDMI "in") with a HDMI cable. You have a nice family.

Love the videos Ken, Your idea gave me an idea. I used your build but substituted the DJI goggles for $150.00 goggles off Amazon. "Visionhmd Bigeyes H1 3D Video Glasses with HDMI input." I'm sure the DJI look better, but for a cheapo try out this does work at 1080P. On Apple I don't use Mirrorcast software, I just use the apple mirroring app built into the phone.

To be clear, this isn't actual VR, but just using the VR headset as a static display. Looking around doesn't affect the camera gimble, etc. It's also a great way to get motion sickness because head motion isn't coupled with the video in any way.

Thumbs are just fine. I fly 3D helicopters with thumbs at high speed with very fast precise maneuvers as well as specific hovering situations and they don’t fly themselves like these drones.

Exactly. But pinching is needed for precise cinematic movements.

@@KenHeron Don’t kid yourself, “precise cinematic movements” are not nearly as specific and involved as 3D flying. Single rotor helicopters are much more difficult to fly and require constant specific correction, they don’t self stabilize like a drone, that’s why drones are so popular, a toddler could fly one. If you prefer pinching, nothing wrong with that at all, but don’t kid yourself that others aren’t just as, if not far more capable of flying very precision movements with thumbs just fine.

Hey great video. I would like to point out however that as well as you saying your not allowed to fly your drone over cars and people, flying via DJI goggles is equally not allowed. The faa has determined this to be a breach if Line of sight. Just thought I'd let you know for future videos.

Brilliant! So beings as the dongle, etc. don't leave the area, the video feed to the goggles will be good as long as the drone is in range. I just got my Mini2 and was thinking about a way to do this for FPV flying....I am 100% going to try this hack. I happen to already have a ChromeCast so part of the job already done. KEN - Frigging Awesome I have done this with my Old Phantom 4 Pro and my DJI FPV goggles. I have wanted to do this for so long and just was too tight to spend the cash on an HDMI adapter for the controller knowing that I wouldn't fly it that often. but now I have a good reason 😁😁 But now I have the best of both worlds. How much latency does all this introduce? Why cant there be a direct wireless connection from mini 2 to goggles? since they both use versions of ocusync. Im pretty sure that Dji can do it with a simple fw update.

On the original system (the RC, the phone) it shouldn't introduce any latency at all unless you have a several generation old mid-ranger phone. The casting to the goggles link will have some additional latency, so the goggle wearer might notice some lag. Ideally it would be under 10ms, but since I've casted many things I know it can be much higher. And good luck ever getting a direct link from anything in the mini series to any type of goggles. It's engineered out on purpose. Most people just put their phone into the type of goggles that take your phone in a slot for "VR". Zero additional latency there. Use Litchi for that.

I hate people like you, there is a 99% survival rate but millions still have died and what harm does a mask do? For the elderly this is crazy deadly. And you could easily kill someone if they have pre existing conditions. It is better to be safe. Plus we want the economy and businesses to reopen and wearing a mask can be an easy way to prevent transmission.

Ken - Are there other goggles you can use other than the DJI goggles doing the same thing? Would like to use goggles to fly my DJI mini 2 instead of my tablet to cut down on glare.

Love the videos! Are you experiencing any lag in the goggles when moving the drone? I used Fatshark HD goggles with a Samsung Note 20 and was getting some lag using that dongle (the hdmi version).
