DJI Mini 3 Pro | Test - Good Range but Weak Signal Strength

The DJI Mini 3 Pro is advertised to have a range of 12km. But lately there have been complaints of issues with Range and the transmission signal being weak. In this video I'll test the signal strength of the fcc version by flying in one of my favorite areas while showing you 4k footage.

hey , just checked ur range test. I have a small advice for you and trust me you will get a lot more range. 2 simple things: Dont have trees near where you are with the controller (home point) , be at least 20m away from the closest tree. The second thing is, once you start your drone, fly it right infront of you, aim the controller to it, and then you dont move your controller at all during the whole range test, dont move it up or down or left or right, keep it in the same position that u had it when u started. This way you can 2x your range. Even if you get weak signal, just slowly increase altitute but do not adjust the controller position, regardless of where you are flying the drone. check it out and let me know, better if you test this in the same spot as this so you can see the difference. cheers fellow dji mini 3 owner. i get 5kilometer in europe, berlin. before when i ddint know, i kept "adjusting my controller" to "aim it to the drone" while in flight and didnt go past 1.5 kilometers. just tried what i wrote above and more than doubled my range, same spots i flown before. theres also some more stuff related to 2.4ghz and 5.8ghz depending if you fly in city or rural that can also make a huge difference, if you want me to expand, just reply.

Interesting video. After I saw you flying the mini 2 up river from the same spot I went there myself and flew it with my mini 2. I’m surprised DJI would put out a controller that isn’t up to par with something they already have out. Does the obstacle avoidance take away from the signal strength? Thanks.

Hey Chad great video. I’ve been holding out, anticipating DJI will upgrade the RC remote with external antennas. I’ll keep flying my old trustee Mavic 2 pro! Thanks for test. It seems that major problem is antennas in drone, it clearly shows how signal drops as you turn dron around. I do not think that firmware update will change that.

Thanks for testing the range on the Mini 3 Pro, this has really become the hot topic this drone. And people seem to be getting very different results, some go miles without a glitch, and others loose connection around 300 meters. And it's a shame this takes conversation away from the fact that's a great mini drone otherwise. Full featured with a good camera, especially for a mini drone. Great video Chad.

Thanks Ron. Yes that is true. Personally, I don't think the signal is bad. Just spotty at times. But I think there may have been improvement with the new firmware.

Hey Chad. Nice video 👍🏻. I think the new firmware update addressed the range issue a bit. Personally for me the range is not much of a concern as I normally do not fly any further than that.

Also onother thing to be mentioned that if trees are wet from rain or anything like that it throws off the Signal to the drone by a whole lot nice vid btw

Personally I think the mini 3 is overrated. Much expectations were placed on it mostly because of its brand and was expected to beat the Nano+ hands down but clearly it is not matching up esp with range, and video wise, it has not performed as expected (which is a wide margin between the mini 3 and Nano+). It is struggling to meet the expectations of users!

I bought the mini 3 fcc version and fly more combo plus, and return it yesterday after a day of use because of the range. Everywhere I flew it I had no more than 2500 feet of range and the same place I fly my mini 2 , where the range of the mini 2 was 12000 feet... it was unacceptable, so return it right away.

Hey Adrian...Yeah, I know your feelings about mini drones, but other than the signal issue (which is not terrible), this is a pretty nice one. The signal issue could possibly be solved with a firmware update.
